    Title Postdoctoral Fellow in Comparative Genomic Approaches to the Evolution of Multicellularity

    Position Description

    A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Cassandra Extavour, Howard Hughes Medical Institute ( HHMI ) Investigator and Professor in the Departments of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology ( OEB ) and of Molecular and Cellular Biology ( MCB ) at Harvard University. The Extavour Lab aims to understand the function and evolution of genes that direct multicellular development, using techniques drawn from functional genetics, developmental biology, comparative genomics, and eco-evo-devo, using several different arthropod species as laboratory model organisms.

     

    The opening is for a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in one or more of the following areas: comparative genomics, establishment of novel or understudied laboratory model organisms, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, functional genetics in microbial systems, developmental genetics and developmental biology. All candidates must have received a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the time of appointment. The postdoc will be based at the Biological Laboratories of Harvard University and have access to all the resources available through the Department of OEB , the Department of MCB , and the HHMI . The position is available for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal for a second or third year pending successful progress and funding availability, and will include a competitive salary and full benefits.

    Basic Qualifications

    Ph.D in biology, genetics, genomics, evolutionary biology or related field(s)

    Additional Qualifications

    A successful applicant will be able to provide evidence of at least some of the following:

     

    - Extensive independent research experience

     

    - Creativity and independence

     

    - Genetic or molecular lab experience

     

    - Bioinformatics, or statistical genetics experience

     

    - Excellent written and oral communication skills
