    Job Summary

    The Mammography Technologist I is responsible for performing screening and diagnostic mammography procedures to assist in the detection and diagnosis of breast diseases. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency, adherence to safety protocols, and a commitment to patient-centered care. The Mammography Technologist I works collaboratively with radiologists and healthcare professionals, ensuring accurate imaging and patient comfort while maintaining compliance with state, federal, and regulatory standards, including FDA/MQSA and ACR requirements.

    Essential Functions

    + Performs mammography imaging procedures, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images through proper positioning, technique, and compression.

    + Adheres to safety protocols, radiation protection standards, and infection control guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety.

    + Ensures equipment functionality and maintenance, performing routine quality control testing per ACR and FDA/MQSA requirements.

    + Reviews physician orders and patient history, ensuring all mammography procedures are correctly ordered, verified, and acknowledged.

    + Educates patients on breast health, self-exam techniques, and procedure expectations, addressing concerns with professionalism.

    + Assists radiologists with specialized mammography procedures, including fine needle aspiration (FNA), needle localizations, and biopsies, while maintaining sterile technique.

    + Prepares patients for invasive mammography-guided procedures, providing clear instructions and post-procedure care guidance.

    + Maintains accurate documentation and image storage as required by state, federal, and accreditation regulations.

    + Manages mammography inventory and supplies, ensuring cost-effective use and proper stock levels for daily operations.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    + Complies with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    + 1-3 years of experience in radiologic imaging required

    + 2-4 years experience as a mammographer in an acute care hospital setting preferred

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Proficiency in mammographic positioning, imaging techniques, and radiation safety standards.

    + Strong understanding of FDA/MQSA, ACR, and state regulatory compliance requirements for mammography.

    + Ability to effectively communicate and provide patient education with empathy and professionalism.

    + Knowledge of aseptic and surgical techniques for mammography-guided procedures.

    + Attention to detail in documenting patient information, reports, and image storage requirements.

    + Proficiency in PACS, electronic medical records (EMR), and mammography equipment operation.

    + Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills in technical troubleshooting and patient care situations.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + Licensed Radiologic Technologist as applicable by state required

    + ARRT Radiography Certification required and

    + (M) ARDMS or ARRT - Mammography or eligibility to obtain within six (6) months of hire required

    + BCLS - Basic Life Support required
