    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Senior Counsel will support the Abbott Nutrition Division of Abbott Laboratories. The successful candidate will have opportunities to:

     

    + Develop a deep understanding of Abbott’s technologies and customers

    + Provide ongoing patent-related training to the business

    + Provide legal and strategic guidance to clients, including senior management

    + Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mine strategic inventions

    + Manage invention disclosures, including collecting and screening disclosures, conducting inventor interviews, and providing recommendations on filing strategies

    + Manage an active docket, including overseeing the filing and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications and the strategic development of the portfolio

    + Manage outside counsel, including reviewing work product to ensure it meets Abbott’s expectations

    + Conduct due diligence assessments on potential mergers and acquisitions

    + Complete freedom-to-operate assessments

    + Assist internal and external litigation counsel on IP litigation matters

    + Develop and implement patent strategies for key projects

    + Participate in the effective management of the budget

    REQUIREMENTS

    + Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admitted to a U.S. state bar in good standing

    + USPTO registration in good standing

    + Strong academic background

    + Minimum of 7 years working as a patent attorney and counseling clients on intellectual property issues, including freedom-to-operate and patent prosecution

    + Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills

    + Strong interpersonal skills and strategic thinking

    + Ability to manage numerous projects and deadlines simultaneously

    + High standards for quality and excellence

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience handling PTAB proceedings/EPO Oppositions and supporting patent litigation

    + Significant freedom-to-operate or product clearance experience

    + In-house experience

    + Working knowledge of patent laws in major jurisdictions outside of the U.S.

    + USPTO experience

     

    The base pay for this position is $147,300.00 – $294,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
