    JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, the Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning is responsible for oversight and leadership in the areas of secondary curriculum and PK-12 math supports. This position assists buildings with goals and action planning, curriculum review, and development of instructional practices.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Curriculum or related field

    + Valid Iowa Administrator license with Evaluator endorsement

    + Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience

    + Minimum of two years of successful leadership experience

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Curriculum and Program Review

     

    + Assumes a leadership role in secondary programs, including development of instructional practices, grade level and course standards, and assessment.

    + Facilitates curriculum review process.

    + Facilitates curriculum/program review team in collaboration with building administrators.

    + Collaborates with curriculum review teams to monitor implementation of prioritized standards and instructional resources.

    + Partners with the Teaching & Learning team to support systemic decisions of curriculum.

    + Provides oversight and support for systemic math implementation.

    + Organizes all 6-12 core standards documents.

     

    Building Leadership Collaboration and Coaching

     

    + Assists in developing, monitoring, and supporting continuous improvement plans

    + Assists in implementation of building action plans and goal attainment

    + Collaborates within the PLC process using data to develop classroom instructional strategies

    + Collaborates with building teams to support secondary curriculum, instruction, and assessment

    + Reviews and shares assessment data with stakeholders

    + Maintains regular communication with buildings and district administration concerning world language, computer science, language arts, math, science, and social studies programs.

     

    Professional Development and Support

     

    + Co-leads district level professional learning within the six focus areas of Teaching & Learning

    + Creates and facilitates professional learning focused on a data management system to support PLCs, staff, and administrators in crafting goals and making data-based decisions

    + Coordinates the implementation and support of PLCs across the district.

    + Provides guidance and support for teachers related to parent/guardian relations.

    + Engages in professional development related to functions and responsibilities of position.

    + Conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations of K-12 Librarians.

     

    PK-12 Math Intervention & MTSS

     

    + Collaborates with the Math Implementation Specialist to monitor, coordinate, and assess the district math program.

    + Delivers effective math professional learning for administrators, teachers, and parents.

    + Collaborates with the Math Implementation Specialist to provide leadership in the development and oversight of math support programs.

    + Collaborates with Instructional Services staff to support literacy and social, emotional, behavior, and mental health to align Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) in all areas.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS

    + Prepares communication regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

    + Completes all required training.

    + Performs other related duties, as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    + Knowledge of current and best practices in curriculum, instruction, assessment, staff development, and educational coaching

    + Strong foundational knowledge of evidence-based mathematics instruction and research on teaching mathematics

    + Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data-driven decision-making

    + Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    + Ability to work collaboratively with and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders

    + Ability to provide educational coaching and lead professional development

    + Ability to maintain appointment levels of confidentiality

    + Proficient in technology related to areas of responsibility

    + Competent working in a culturally diverse environment

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

    + Moderate sitting, walking and standing

    + Occasional stooping, squatting, bending, and kneeling

    + Carrying and lifting up to 25 lbs.

    + Use of hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms

    + Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus

    + Indoor work environment primarily in an office or school setting

    + Ability to travel within the district
