JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, the Compliance & Transition Specialist is responsible for ensuring the integrity and compliance of Individualized Education Program (IEPs) within the 4+ program, focusing on students transitioning from high school to postsecondary life. This position plays a critical role in facilitating the successful student transitions by collaborating with educators, counselors, and community partners to create learning, employment and living opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor’s degree in Education
+ Minimum of four years of teaching special education
+ Valid Iowa teaching license
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Thoroughly reviews all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) within ACHIEVE for students in the 4+ program focusing on goals, data, and comments to ensure IEPs adhere to federal and state special education regulations.
+ Identifies and addresses compliance issues in IEPs.
+ Provides coaching and training to special education staff and administrators related to special education compliance.
+ Monitors student special education records to ensure they are maintained at both district and building level for compliance with federal, state and district mandates.
+ Uses data to inform decision-making and improve outcomes.
+ Engages in professional development related to functions and responsibilities of position
+ Collaborates with administrators, teachers, and counselors to facilitate transition programming for high school and postsecondary students.
+ Networks with community agencies and organizations to develop learning. living, and working opportunities and partnerships.
+ Attends IEP meetings as the Transition Specialist as requested.
+ Ensures IEP teams develop and implement the transition outcomes, instructional areas, and necessary services for students.
+ Works closely with special education teachers and students to meet transition needs.
+ Collaborates with special education teachers to ensure job placement.
+ Effectively communicates with parents, students, staff, community/adult services providers and agencies about issues related to the successful transition of students.
+ Completes all required training.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
+ Assists with periodic and requested reports.
+ Provides input to improve District processes.
+ Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.

+ Knowledge of current federal and state special education laws, rules, regulations, and practices
+ Demonstrated ability to write compliant IEPs
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
+ Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
+ Effective collaborative decision-making skills
+ Ability to develop and implement training for staff
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders
+ Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality
+ Proficient in technology relevant to areas of responsibility
+ Competent working in a culturally diverse environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ Frequent sitting; moderate walking and standing; occasional stooping, bending and kneeling
+ Ability to carry and lift up to 25 lbs.
+ Use of hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms
+ Specific vision abilities to include close, distance and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
+ Ability to travel within district and community
+ Occasional exposure to irritated or agitated individuals
+ Indoor work environment primarily in an office or school setting
