    Job Description

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

    The Tier 3 Coordinator provides key leadership and support to teachers, principals, and central office staff as it pertains to classroom management and Tier 3 plans of individual students in all buildings throughout the district. Tier 3 Coordinator analyzes behavior data and Tier 3 implementation data to recommend appropriate courses of action. The Tier 3 Coordinator will oversee interventions for students at the Tier 3 level. Furthermore, this position will lead building Tier 3 teams in making modifications to student plans. Although this position is not supervisory in nature, the Tier 3 Coordinator is responsible for actively coaching and supporting teachers in their area of expertise; organizing, planning, and facilitating program-level professional development.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    Adheres to Board policies, district procedures, and contractual obligations.

     

    Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with teachers, principals, and directors regarding important issues relative to their program responsibility.

     

    Provides coaching and support to classroom teachers to improve classroom management. May include classroom modeling of classroom management strategies.

     

    Assists in developing and providing feedback related to Tier 3 behavior plans.

     

    Collects and analyzes data related to the implementation of Tier 3 behavior plans in an effort to make ongoing adjustments to promote student success.

     

    Engages 100% of the time in program coordination. Of this time, 80% will be spent in buildings observing programs, supporting and coaching teachers; 20% will be spent analyzing data, researching best practices and trends, and preparing professional development opportunities.

     

    Models, coaches, and ongoing supports for general education behavior technicians.

     

    Develops, delivers, and assesses program-based professional development for teachers and principals. Identification of best practices is an important aspect of this professional development responsibility. Must keep current on laws and educational regulations relating to the program.

     

    Assists in the identification and placement of students into interventions and at-risk programs.

     

    Understands the special education identification process.

     

    Attends building level Tier 3 meetings across all elementary/secondary buildings as able.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

     

    Minimum qualifications include a valid Iowa teaching certificate, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education or an appropriate content area, and a minimum of three years teaching experience and one year experience within the District. Must possess proper state certification and licensure for the position. BCBA certification is preferred. The employee is expected to demonstrate continued professional growth specific to the program(s).

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    The Tier 3 Coordinator retains the regular teaching contract and shall be issued a supplemental contract for a one-year assignment to the Tier 3 Coordinator role. The supplemental contract will be for additional work on an “as needed” basis beyond the career teacher contract. The scope of the work to be completed for the additional contract days will be determined by the District Leadership Team. The Tier 3 Coordinator will receive a $2,000 stipend.

    EVALUATION

    Job performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of Learning Supports.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS

    Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to the success of this position. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization, including teachers, principals, and central administration. Communication will include individual to large group presentations as well as written communications and reports. Individual must have effective listening skills.

    PUBLIC RELATIONS

    Promotes the District and program areas through positive public relations. The Tier 3 Coordinator will be a collaborative team member who maintains positive relationships with administrators, staff, parents, and community groups.

    FACILITATION SKILLS

    Must be an effective facilitator in a variety of situations. Must have the ability to support educators and teams in enhancing skills to effectively deal with classroom management and/or challenging behaviors. Position requires the ability to model, observe, and provide feedback in a non-evaluative way.

    PLANNING SKILLS

    Must have the ability to plan both long-term and short-term. Planning should include data analysis, research of best practices, action steps, and general logistical support.

    ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

    The position requires strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to organize and assimilate information, assessment data, resources, scheduling, and other needs within the program(s).

     

    ANALYTICAL and REASONING SKILLS

     

    Individual must have skills in observing, gathering, and analyzing data. The position requires assisting educators in data gathering and analysis to develop plans.

    TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

    Individual must be competent in research and information gathering through technology. Must also have the capability to collect and sort data through technology. The ability to present and communicate through technology is required, including spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and web-based information.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Normal office physical demands. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds infrequently. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Generally, employee works inside.

    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

    Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee, necessary and appropriate to the achievement of the program and/or District goals and objectives.
