    This position is eligible for telework to applicants who reside in Minnesota or a bordering county along the Minnesota state line. Effective June 1, employees living within 75 miles of the work location will be required to work in office at least 50% of the time each month.

     

    This position will participate as a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution unit team responsible for providing proactive assistance and education in dispute prevention/resolution. Work primarily conducting administrative conferences, along with analyzing complex workers' compensation issues; certification of disputes regarding medical and vocational rehabilitation benefits; educating customers regarding effective dispute resolution strategies; and developing and facilitating mediation sessions. The incumbent intervenes and negotiates legally binding resolutions in a variety of cases, while encouraging early and efficient use of alternative dispute resolution.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Four (4) years of professional experience in one or more of the following:

    • Conducting administrative conferences and mediation proceedings using mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution practices, **OR**

    • Experience participating as an advocate in administrative conferences and mediation proceedings using mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution practices, **OR**

    • Medical case management or utilization review of workers’ compensation cases.

    • Ability to learn Work Comp Campus with sufficient skill level to provide assistance and guidance to users with questions/issues related to usage of the online claims system.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of Minnesota workers' compensation law, rules, case law and policies sufficient to answer common questions, evaluate disputed issues, and apply authorized dispute resolution strategies on any and all workers' compensation disputes.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology and theory for use in interpreting workers' compensation statutes, rules, case law and policies.

    • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, conditions, treatment methods and parameters sufficient to evaluate reports regarding progress and lost time on a case-by-case basis.

    • Knowledge of rehabilitation and/or retraining plans sufficient to assess progress necessary to demonstrate appropriateness of a particular plan.

    + Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

    + Graduation from an accredited law school.

    + Workers' Compensation litigation experience.

    + Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL)
