Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
+ Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides set-up, preparation, and assistance of endoscopic procedures for physicians and endoscopic surgical staff.
+ Provides support and communicates directly with endoscopy surgical teams and supervisory staff.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Surgical Technician (CST), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Tech (EMT), Medical Assistant (MA) training or equivalent medical training preferred.
+ Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS.
+ Procedure assistance experience in an Endoscopy unit preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
+ Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric as applicable).
+ Revenue Management: ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
+ Complies with hospital safety policies and procedures.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of cautery safety (grounding pad and cautery use during procedure).
+ Recognizes breaks in aseptic technique and takes immediate corrective action.
+ Demonstrates understanding of all roles in the endoscopic procedural team.
+ Performs equipment checks to ensure proper functioning.
+ Updates and reviews physician preference cards.
+ Anticipates and prioritizes physician needs. Communicates with RN to obtain needed resources.
+ Responsible for technical equipment and supplies (inventory, usage, organization, and maintenance in own specialty area).
+ Troubleshoots equipment within own specialty to bring to resolution.
+ Assists and/or follows direction of the RN to set up a room and obtain equipment.
+ Assists the physician and RN during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
+ Responds to emergency situations as directed by the RN or physician.
+ Responsible for collecting data to monitor quality as directed by the department manager.
+ Advanced classes in medical terminology and anatomy.
+ Assists in providing 24-hour coverage for the Endoscopy department.
