POSITION DETAILS
Brooklyn College is currently accepting applications for the position of Financial Aid Advisor in the Office of Financial Aid. The Financial Aid Advisor plays a crucial role in advising prospective students on financing their education at Brooklyn College. Responsibilities include guiding students through the financial aid process, making financial eligible awards accessible and aiding with application procedures as required.
Every student is assigned to a Financial Aid Advisor. This ensures that each student receives personalized guidance from a dedicated Financial Aid Advisor. This individualized support is designed to help students navigate the complexities and regulations associated with student aid eligibility effectively.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Financial Aid Advisor’s duties include but are not limited to the following:
+ Provide advisement information to students on all financial aid award eligibility criteria.
+ Responsible for processing federal and state grants (APTS, Aid for Part Time Study).
+ Perform Title IV verification for students selected by the Federal government (includes income verification, selective service compliance, verifying immigration status, etc.).
+ Verify student’s satisfactory academic progress and requirements for state aid programs and federal title IV programs.
+ Review and update student data and administrative records daily and ensure financial aid compliance with Student Financial Aid regulations, CUNY policies and Retention policy.
+ Conduct financial aid workshops for students and parents. Participate in college open house and orientation activities.
+ Respond to inquiries from students in a timely fashion.
+ Perform budget/income adjustments as appropriate based on guidelines.
+ Serve as a liaison between the department and other college offices, and represent the department at off-campus financial aid programs as directed.
+ Participate in training sessions, seminars, and other professional development activities at the discretion of the director and/or senior staff.
+ Assist with other departmental tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Two years of related experience preferred.
+ Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends required.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ Experience with CUNY financial aid systems preferred.
+ Must be a team player, with a professional attitude and effective communication skills.
+ Ability to use judgment to utilize and impart confidential information.
+ Comfortable presenting information in a range of settings to a diverse group of individuals.
+ Exceptional organizational and writing skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to take direction well.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Counsels applicants and students on eligibility for financial aid programs, assisting them in the application process.
- Verifies eligibility for Federal and State financial aid programs including grants, scholarships, and guaranteed student loans
- Performs application intake, evaluation, processing and awarding
- Assists in the production of Financial Aid online, print material, and websites
- Advises students on good academic standing requirements and the appeal process; reviews appeals for dependency overrides and budget adjustments
- Conducts group workshops and represents the financial aid office at various on- and off- campus events
- Serves as a liaison between the college office and Direct Loan Providers
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$44.411 - $49,960; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
