What We Want
The Associate Executive Director is responsible for: providing oversight over the core grant management operations for System Members; participating in strategic planning as a member of the SRS Executive Leadership Team; and serving as a liaison with System Member representatives.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Ten years’ progressively responsible experience in related field, including compliance.
+ Five years of supervisory experience.

+ Demonstrate the ability to prioritize own work and to take initiative and ownership of projects.
+ High level of attention to detail.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in sponsored research administration in a land-grant university system and/or state-supported institution of higher education.
+ Experience supervising the work of others.
+ Advanced administrative experience including management of research administration personnel.
+ Experience in prioritizing and managing concurrent complex projects and deadlines and setting priorities.
+ Personal or professional experience in working with people of varied backgrounds.
Responsibilities
+ Core Function Oversight- Provides oversight over the core grant management operations for System Members, including pre and post award activities, proposal submissions, contract negotiation, award set-up and monitoring, accounts receivables, and training initiatives. Works collaboratively with other Associate Executive Directors: - to ensure consistent SRS procedures are in place for the core function areas where feasible with exceptions being in place when needed or required by compliance. Ensure that the services offered by the pre-award, post-award and accounts payable areas contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the System Members.
+ Develop pre-award, post-award and accounts receivable operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work toward the strategic direction of the organization and the expectations of the Executive Director and Members, Review and revise, as appropriate, existing core function procedures on an annual basis to ensure they continue to align with the strategic direction of the organization, and System Member expectations. Analyze, implement, and oversee training initiatives for the core function areas. Analyzes and interprets System Member and sponsor policies develops, revises, implements, and communicates core functional area procedures, based on said policies. Oversees the planning, Implementation and evaluation of core functional areas, for assigned members.
+ Leadership and Strategic Planning- Serves as a member of the SRS Executive Leadership Team as an officer to the Executive Director. As part of the Executive Team, develops strong vision, mission, goals and objectives for SRS as a Service Provider to System Members. Works collaboratively with executive leadership team to identify long-term plans to promote effective and efficient core research administration functions and to find solutions to day-to-day operational activities within and that cross the core function services or System Member areas. In conjunction with other Associate Executive Directors, acts as advisor to the Executive Director; identifies, assesses, and informs the Executive Director of internal and external issues that affect the core functional area and its stakeholders.
+ Liaison and Representative- Serves as a primary liaison with assigned System Member representatives to strengthen the overall leadership and the direction of SRS with emphasis on providing needed services and compliance to its consortium of members. Serves as a member of the SRS Transition and Service Operations Committee (TSOC) to deal with the problems with SRS services and the need for System Members and SRS Collaboration. Works with stake holders, external organizations and other members of the SRS executive leadership team. As requested by the Executive Director, acts as the spokesperson for the organization. Represents the organization and participates in various stake-holder meetings, as requested by the Executive Director.
+ Supervision- Supervises and assists the SRS Directors and Assistant Directors in ensuring efficient and effective day-to-day core function operations (pre-award, post- award, accounts receivable) for assigned System Members. Evaluates Directors and Assistant Directors for job performance. Fosters effective teamwork between the Directors and Assistant Directors. Evaluates and recommends staffing requirements for core functional areas and organizational management for assigned System Members. Coaches and mentors staff as appropriate to improve performance. Promotes professional development for staff, Directors and Assistant Directors.
