Job Summary and Qualifications
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This professional position requires an individual who is knowledgeable in the proper use of CPT/ICD9 coding and related coding rules and regulations. This Supervisor is expected to exhibit skill in managing the activities of his/her department and the personnel which report to him/her. The individual holding this position will follow all Policies and Procedures as they pertain to his/her areas of responsibility and will insure that they are followed by the billing staff. Supporting HCA Healthcare's 186 hospitals and 2,400+ sites of care, Physician Services plays a crucial role as the main entry point for patients looking for high-quality healthcare within the HCA Healthcare system. With a focus on meeting the needs of our patients at all access points, Physician Services is dedicated to implementing innovative, physician-driven, value-added solutions to assist physicians in providing high-quality, patient-centered care, aligning with our mission to care for and enhance human life.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
+ Provides daily, monthly, weekly and yearly reports as directed to the Practice Coding Manager &/or Director of Revenue Cycle Operations.
+ Will provide direct oversight of the activities within the billing department.
+ Will perform annual evaluations of assigned staff within the billing department.
+ Provide ongoing training and education to billing staff to ensure that policies and procedures are followed.
+ Meets with Practice Coding Manager regularly to effectively communicate and resolve billing issues, set and prioritize goals, improve processes and review insurance and billing status.
+ Assists with staff communication providing updates, resolving issues, setting goals and maintaining standards.
+ Oversight of Charge Entry team’s # of unreconciled charges on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
+ Work with CPC’s & all billing staff regarding charge entry process as needed and complete all billing/coding training.
+ Compiles reports at month end and (as needed) to reconcile charges & scheduling to ensure that all accounts have been billed.
+ Ensures that correct coding and compliance guidelines are being adhered to during the charge entry process.
+ Coordinates with others, including personnel in company branches to exchange information and update controls.
+ Works directly with hospital Global Billing Team for transplant claim adjudication, if applicable.
+ Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
+ And other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
+ A high school diploma or GED is required; however, an associates of bachelor’s degree in business of related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
+ Five years of billing, coding or charge entry experience in health care field is required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
+ No license requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
+ Knowledge of business office procedures
+ Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and systems
+ Knowledge of computer systems and applications
+ Knowledge of government and reimbursement regulations and requirements
+ Skill in planning, organizing, delegating and supervising
+ Skill in verbal and written communication
+ Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision-making and problem-solving expertise.
+ Ability to work effectively with staff, patients, public and external agencies.
+ Possesses knowledge in billing/coding rules, polices/procedures.
+ Proficient understanding of Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care rules.
