POSITION OVERVIEW
The Partnership for Public Service is seeking a research associate to support our efforts engaging the public in the work of government and its impact on individuals and communities. During this time of drastic changes to the federal workforce and federal programs, it is more important than ever to translate what these changes mean for everyday Americans. This position will provide quantitative and qualitative research and analysis support, assist in developing resources and memos, and serve on cross-functional project teams. This individual will perform a variety of tasks, including conducting literature reviews and environmental scans; analyzing interview and focus group transcripts; collecting, cleaning and analyzing quantitative data; drafting blog posts or portions of larger research products; and fulfilling data requests from other Partnership teams and from external stakeholders, including the media.
The ideal candidate will have social science research experience, a commitment to effective government, and strong writing, organizational and time-management skills. Candidates should be able to work well both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Assist project leadership by scheduling meetings, tracking progress on various projects using project management software, keeping internal stakeholders informed about project work and managing ad-hoc assignments and requests.
+ Contribute to the development of resources that synthesize complicated government operations and impact data in an easy-to-understand way.
+ Collect, clean and analyze quantitative data on topics such as the federal workforce, federal spending, federal benefits and other management operations data.
+ Research government and management issues through analyzing historical documents, legislation, and government resources to inform briefings, talking points, blogs, web copy, social media posts and more.
+ Write clear, compelling summaries of or narratives about research findings and data analysis for non-technical audiences in a variety of formats.
+ As needed, rapidly collect, analyze and summarize or synthesize qualitative or quantitative data on short notice.
+ Work with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of projects; ensure seamless delivery while providing accurate and accessible information to a variety of audiences.

REQUIRED/PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent professional work or military experience.
+ Approximately one to two years of experience in social science research, which may include internships, volunteer experience or graduate-level coursework.
+ Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint, required.
+ Proficiency with data analysis platforms such as SPSS, SAS or R is preferred.
+ Familiarity with the federal government and lawmaking process is preferred.
+ Familiarity with survey research is preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/REPORTING STRUCTURE
This position will report to a manager or senior manager on the Communications Team.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a hybrid (remote + office) environment in Washington, DC, and requires the candidate to be a permanent resident in the Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia area. The person in this role is expected to work in the office, on average, two days per week. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer/scanner and MS Office.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, two-year fellowship position with regular work hours Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required. Please note that Partnership allows flexibility in work schedules.
TRAVEL
If travel occurs, it is usually during the business day. Very little out of the area and/or overnight travel will be required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The starting salary range for this position is $50,000 - $52,000. The Partnership offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary; medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 401(k) program with a 4 percent employer match; commuter benefits; opportunities for training and development; 15 days of annual leave per year, 10 days of sick leave per year, plus all federal holidays and the day after Thanksgiving off; and use of an on-site exercise facility.
