Job Title: Furnace Operator
Job Description
The Furnace Operator will be responsible for preparing schedules, equipment, metal, and molds prior to furnace operation. The role involves pouring high-quality castings, verifying shell identification and metal assignments, inspecting and cleaning shells, and implementing solutions to identified problems. The operator will install fixtures, insulation, filters, tundish, and covers per technique card and SOPs. The Furnace Operator will also be responsible for loading and firing burnout furnaces, monitoring cycles, changing pots and leads, and documenting work performed.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare schedules, equipment, metal, and molds prior to furnace operation.
+ Create and follow the written furnace plan.
+ Review casting schedules and communicate requirements with leads.
+ Pour high-quality castings using every method available.
+ Verify shell identification and metal assignments according to casting schedule and technique card.
+ Inspect and clean shells in preparation for casting.
+ Identify problems and opportunities and implement solutions.
+ Install fixtures, insulation, filters, tundish, and covers as per technique card and SOPs.
+ Load and fire burnout furnaces, prepare maps, and monitor cycles for proper operation and repair.
+ Change pots, leads, and furnace oil as needed.
+ Check vacuum levels, power supply, hydraulics, and other furnace systems for proper operation.
+ Verify weights and load metal alloy charges into slip pots and crucibles.
+ Efficiently melt and pour alloys into molds according to procedures and work instructions.
+ Operate equipment including induction melting, hydraulic systems, doors, cranes, and hoists.
+ Maintain process control parameters and records during melting and casting.
+ Perform and record calibrations.
+ Operate computer systems.
+ Transfer hot molds from burnout to casting furnaces.
+ Document observations using PVN & Casting Feedback Forms.
+ Maintain furnaces and support equipment to minimize downtime and cost while maximizing furnace output.
+ Clean and/or have responsibility for regular furnace cleaning.
+ Maintain a clean, organized work area.
+ Perform regular minor maintenance, calibrations, and preventive maintenance on equipment.
+ Troubleshoot furnace problems and assist craftsmen on repairs.
+ Record equipment performance, identify changes, and initiate corrections.
+ Maintain neat and accurate logs, production reports, and process control records.
+ Provide work direction, training, and working supervision to others as assigned.
+ Participate in audits, experiments, and improvement teams.
+ Promote teamwork.
+ Promote safe practices, equipment, and facilities by example and methods.
Essential Skills

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Achieve 90% or better on Industrial Skills Test
+ Complete NCRC Testing
+ High School Diploma or equivalent
Work Environment
The work environment involves serving aerospace, power, and general industrial markets worldwide. It includes the manufacture of large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings, and forged components for aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines. The role requires precision and attention to detail in the production of highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace and general industrial markets.

This is a Contract position based out of Portland, Oregon.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.92 - $29.92/hr.
