The Division of Facilities Management - Northern Division
This work unit exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses and in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Facilities served: Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHFL), Department of Human Services at 1575 Sherman St., Wheat Ridge Regional Center (WRRC) to include the group homes and the Division of Youth Services (DYS) facilities (Prairie Vista, Gilliam, Lookout Mountain Campus, Marvin W. Foote, Mount View Campus and Platte Valley.) Provides as needed support to the Veterans Community Living Centers located in the district. Total facilities are approximately 1.9 million sq. ft. at multiple sites within the Northern Region.
Description of Job
Painting:
+ Paint walls, equipment, buildings, casework, and other structural surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns. Surfaces may require removal of old paint to prepare surface prior to painting
+ Paint may require mixing of colors to obtain desired color or consistency
+ Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting Fill cracks, holes, or joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives Performs general building maintenance to include; wall repair, flooring repairs and painting.
+ Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, light fixtures, electric switch covers prior to painting. Prepare surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, or sanding machines.
+ Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal and oils, latex, lacquers, urethane, epoxy, or stains for finish coats
+ Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surfaces measurements Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisor to determine work requirements
+ Perform general Drywall duties: Hang, tape, texture, drywall, and plaster patch
+ Performs snow removal
+ Performs other duties as assigned
+ Some work involves working with fast drying materials
+ Construction of new walls and ceilings including framing
+ All duties may need to be performed in secure areas with patients or clients present in a hospital and institutional environment
+ All duties will be performed in a different building located in widely spread-out locations requiring driving State vehicles from site to site
+ Evaluate and prioritize work orders to determine if it is a routine maintenance repair or if the complexity requires referral to one of the technical trade departments
+ Making sure work is done properly, according to all applicable code and regulatory standards and to a high standard of excellence
+ Making sure the work is being performed safety and that job is performed in a journeyman like manner Making sure the work is done according to all applicable code and regulatory standards Repair minor damage to facilities finishes
+ Repair walls, ceilings, floors, and accentuated systems
+ Replace flooring materials and coverings, including floor tile, sheet goods, wall base and accessories, repair cabinet and counter tops to include millwork hardware
+ Perform preventative maintenance on painting equipment, making sure the proper fixture is put back in place
+ Making sure the work is done according to all applicable code and regulatory standards
This is a full-time, in-person, essential position. Shift work may be required. Must be available for and respond to call backs to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency in a timely manner.
Essential Positions.Positions that perform essential law enforcement, highway maintenance, and other support services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents, and inmates of state institutions or state facilities. Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA non exempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption.
Call Back applies when an eligible employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have four years of professional commercial and/or residential painting experience.
Substitutions:
Education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program that relates to this position will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. In order to utilize this substitution, you must attach a copy of your transcripts/apprenticeship to this job application. Your unofficial transcripts/certification of completion must include your name, college/school name, type of degree/certification received and date the degree/certification was received/conferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Industrial Painting Experience
+ 5 plus years of commercial painting experience
+ Experience operating scissor lifts and boom lifts.
+ Experience with road markings and/or striping
+ Experience working with and maintaining airless paint sprayer

+ Customer Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Conditions of Employment:
+ A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.
+ Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
+ Must possess and maintain a valid, non-restricted Colorado driver’s license.
+ Travel – This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site and/or statewide equipped with tools and equipment to perform daily duties. May be required to travel to training and meetings.
+ Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
+ Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
+ Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption..
+ Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours.
+ Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: Proximity to moving, mechanical parts, Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals., Exposure to electrical shock, and or working in high exposed places.
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
