    Are you ready to embark on a rewarding career in emergency medical services? Whether you’re exploring a new career path or are a recent high school graduate, UPMC has an incredible opportunity for you! In collaboration with a Pennsylvania Department of Health-accredited EMT program, we offer a 16-week paid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training program. A one-year work commitment to UPMC Susquehanna Regional Emergency Medical Services is required.

    Program Highlights:

    + Paid Training: Earn $18.12 per hour while you learn.

    + Start Date: Classes begin in August 2025 and run through December 2025.

    + Career Advancement: Transition into a full-time EMT role with an increased hourly rate of $18.49 upon successful completion of the program and certification.

    + Sign-On Bonus: Full-time EMTs are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus with a one-year work commitment.

    As an EMT Intern, you will:

    + Enroll, attend, and successfully complete the educational requirements of a state-approved EMT education program.

    + Perform field rotations, starting with observation and progressing to patient contact, assessment, and assisting with patient treatment.

    + Work under the direction of an employed and certified EMT or Paramedic with UPMC/Susquehanna Regional EMS.

    Responsibilities:

    + Demonstrate cognitive competency of EMT knowledge through quizzes and examinations.

    + Show psychomotor competency of EMT skills through practical stations and field performance.

    + Complete the required number of field contacts, field objectives, and scheduled field hours at Susquehanna Regional EMS.

    + Respond to emergency and non-emergency ambulance calls to provide efficient and immediate care, including for critically injured or ill patients.

    + Select and use personal protective equipment appropriate to the level of anticipated hazard.

    + Interact and communicate with a diverse group of patients using excellent customer service skills.

    + Perform patient assessment and care at the basic life support level for patients of all age groups, initiating prehospital care in accordance with established standards or policies.

    + Communicate effectively with the communications center, Fire/EMS units using UHF, VHF, and cellular telephones.

    + Commit to high-quality, safe work and encourage others to uphold similar standards. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors, or adverse events. Understand that patient safety is everyone's responsibility.

    + Complete patient records and required state charts for all transports and transfers performed, including a legible narrative description of the patient's condition.

    + Operate emergency vehicles, ambulances, wheelchair vans, and passenger vans under routine and emergency conditions in a safe, controlled manner in accordance with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Vehicle Code and Department of Health.

    + Provide prehospital transportation of emergency or non-emergency patients, locally, out of region, or out of state.

    + Perform support functions such as restocking and inventory maintenance of supplies and equipment, cleaning of equipment, transporting equipment, transporting specimens to diagnostic testing areas, and inter- and intra-departmental transport of equipment.

    + **Education:**

    + High School Diploma or equivalent required.

    + Must be 18 years of age or older.

    + Successful enrollment in a Pennsylvania Department of Health-accredited EMT program.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Obtain National Registry Certification at the EMT level within 30 days of course completion.

    + Obtain Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification with Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator (EMSVO) endorsement within 30 days of course completion.

    + Complete Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) program.

    + Complete Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) program.

    + Complete American Heart Association CPR program for Healthcare Providers.

    + Complete Hazardous Materials Awareness level program.

    + Complete NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, & 800 programs.

    Additional Requirements:

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

    + A valid Driver's License.

    + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.

    + Act 33 with renewal.

    + Act 34 with renewal.

    + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
