Job Description:
Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for Senior Director, Business Development (Licensing, Mergers and Acquisitions) – Medical Tech, Orthopaedics. The position will be based at one of our main US JJMT and Orthopaedics leadership campuses including: New Brunswick, NJ; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Raynham, MA; or West Chester, PA.
The Senior Director of Business Development will collaborate with the Orthopaedics Leadership to develop and execute the external innovation strategy for the business platform. This person will serve on a Platform Leadership Team, contributing to the Platform's overall success, including building the groundwork and entry strategies for the areas of interest, conducting diligence, prioritizing opportunities, and managing resources to achieve an impact on the performance of the Platform.
This person’s responsibilities will include scans and scouts for potential new business opportunities based on insight of unmet customer and market growth opportunities, develops business cases for opportunities, including conducting research and analysis to vet and validate ideas and opportunities. Delivers oral presentations to J&J management to communicate new business opportunities. Often leads the cross functional due diligence processes, negotiation, structuring, closing of deals and supporting a successful integration.
Responsibilities:
+ Develops, recommends, and executes the right strategies to pursue Orthopaedics business opportunities.
+ Develops strategy recommendations that are clear and aligned with Platform and Orthopaedics strategy.
+ Provides assessments and recommendations regarding potential technological and growth gaps for the business.
+ Collaborates with business leaders and other functions to assess new business opportunities.
+ Leads cross-functional and geographic teams and ensures teams are following the appropriate guidelines (for example, J&J financial procedures and strategic alliance guidelines).
+ Develops business cases for new business opportunities.
+ Leads all aspects of marketplace analysis and assessment using financial and forecasting models.
+ Utilizes research to analyze, vet and validate ideas.
+ Leads the cross-functional due diligence process and partners with internal business partners including R&D, Marketing and Finance.
+ Identifies and articulates critical assumptions, risks, and opportunities.
+ Lead the negotiation team in structuring and executing transactions.
+ Guides integration team to support integration of new businesses and assets into J&J.
+ Prepares and delivers regular reports and summaries for leadership that provides status of internal business development projects and competitive M&A activity.
+ Delivers oral and written presentations to J&J management to communicate new business opportunities.
+ Scans and scouts for potential new business opportunities based on insight of unmet customer and market needs (for example licensing, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, distribution/development/supply agreements, IP agreements, co-promotion agreements, divestures, and auction processes).
+ Gathers and communicates intelligence by reading published literature and patents and press releases, attending conferences and trade shows, networking, and seeking other sources of intelligence.
+ Establishes and maintains relationships with external targets aligned to business opportunities.
+ Leading other Business Development professional(s) and responsible for developing and leading a consistently high performing team.

Qualifications:
+ A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of business experience and/or MBA/other advanced degree with at least 7 years relevant business experience is required.
+ Licensing, mergers/acquisitions, consulting or banking experience is required.
+ Experience in developing strategic business cases for opportunities is required.
+ Strong business, negotiation, organizational, project management, analytical, decision-making, and influence leadership skills are required.
+ Ability to effectively communicate and influence a broad variety of business leaders, both internally and externally and of varying levels from functional personnel to senior leaders of companies is required.
+ Ability to prioritize tasks, manage several projects simultaneously are required.
+ Strong analytical and operational skills are required.
+ Experience in the healthcare industry is required.
+ Experience in leading complex transactions is required.
+ Experience working in Medical Device is preferred.
+ Experience in leading direct report(s) is preferred.
+ Experience in a customer/external facing role is strongly preferred.
+ Previous people management experience is strongly preferred.
+ This role may require up to 25% domestic and international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
173,000 - 299,000
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
