    Job Description

    Staff Chaplain

     

    Support healing through spiritual presence, compassion, and interfaith care.

     

    At **University Health** , we believe that healing involves more than medicine. We are seeking **compassionate and credentialed Chaplains** to join our interdisciplinary team in supporting the **emotional, spiritual, and sacramental needs** of our diverse patient population, families, and staff. Our chaplains play a key role in promoting whole-person care across all areas of the hospital.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Provide **age-appropriate and culturally competent spiritual care** to patients, families, and staff

    + Offer **interfaith ministry** , spiritual assessments, emotional support, crisis intervention, and religious rites

    + Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and care teams as part of an **interdisciplinary model**

    + Participate in **24/7 in-house chaplaincy coverage** (as scheduled)

    + Contribute to departmental education, trauma support, and care rounding

    + Support a **designated clinical specialty** (e.g., Oncology, Cardiology, OB/GYN) if applicable

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Master’s degree from an accredited seminary or theological institution (typically **Master of Divinity** or equivalent)

    + **Completion of four units (Level II) of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)** from an ACPE, NACC, or NAJC-accredited center

    + _PRN applicants may qualify with fewer units based on demonstrated clinical experience_

    + **Ordination or ecclesiastical endorsement** by a recognized religious tradition/faith group

    + **At least four (4) years of pastoral experience** ( _1 year acceptable for PRN, including CPE experience_ )

    + Demonstrated ability to provide care across **diverse cultures, faiths, and age groups**

    + Strong skills in **empathy, active listening, spiritual assessment, and crisis response**

    + Willingness to work as part of an **interdisciplinary, team-based care model**

    + **Current Board Certification (or eligibility)** as a Chaplain (APC, NACC, NAJC) expected for full-time staff

    + _PRN staff certification is encouraged but not required_

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience in **major medical facilities or trauma centers**

    + Specialized training or clinical focus in areas such as **Behavioral Health, Oncology, Cardiology, OB/GYN, or Palliative Care**

    + Bilingual or multilingual abilities
