The Infection Control / Quality Nurse will perform surveillance, prevention, and control of infections in patients of all ages. This nurse will assist with the Quality program in areas of data collection, analysis, and reports for other staff, providers, and the Board Quality Committee.

+ None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Manages Infection Control Program (ICP) and activities in conjunction with local, state, federal rules/recommendations/regulations (CDC, OSHA, APIC, Critical Access, etc.) and medical center policy.
+ Develops and implements policy and procedure with review/revision annually and as required in infection control practices. Acts as a liaison between medical staff, department heads, housekeeping, maintenance, and dietary as well as others concerned directly or indirectly with patient care.
+ Coordinates reporting of communicable diseases to public health.
+ Provides education to all new staff on principles of prevention of infectious diseases.
+ Manages employee health screening and immunization programs such as T.B. screening, Hepatitis B and Influenza immunizations.
+ Monitors/investigates infectious diseases, potentially harmful exposures, and outbreaks among personnel and reports to appropriate agencies.
+ Monitors blood-borne and air-borne hazardous exposures and provides employee counseling. Also, follows up post exposure prophylaxes programs per facility policy with regard to compliance, employee health, safety, and counseling.
+ Assesses individual and collective infection control/employee health learning needs. Initiates projects to advance infection control awareness, staff education and compliance.
+ Serves as consultant to Engineering regarding infection control issues during construction/repairs/renovations.
+ Reports infection statistics as directed.
+ Quality Improvement data collection, analysis and reports as directed by the Director of Quality
+ Utilizes standardized quality improvement tools (e.g., PDSA, workflow mapping, Gantt charts) to facilitate sustainable practice transformation activities for GMC.
Required Skills/Abilities:
+ Knowledge of infection prevention/control practices
+ Ability to carry out written and oral instructions and to exercise judgment in the application of infection prevention practices.
+ Ability to work cooperatively with people and to maintain an objective attitude.
+ Ability to exercise tact and initiative.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
+ Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
+ Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the state.
+ Ability to virtually obtain certificate of completion for Epi 101 and Epi 102 through the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) organization, within first year of hire.
+ Ability to obtain Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 2 years of hire.
+ Current BLS certification required.
Physical Requirements:
+ Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
+ Prolonged periods of standing, bending and reaching.
+ Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds at times.
