    Job Summary

    College advisors will support Wolverine Pathways scholars and their families in gaining and increasing knowledge about college preparation and the college application process. College advisors will guide scholars in identifying resources, habits, and skills that lead to academic and college success. College advisors are essential to upholding the college-going culture and expectations amongst Wolverine Pathways scholars and families.

     

    **Note that this position is currently funded for 4 years with the possibility of extension** .

     

    Who We Are

     

    Wolverine Pathways seeks to confront the barriers that limit the college and career aspirations of highly motivated students from under-resourced communities. Every student deserves the opportunity to pursue a wide range of professional and academic pathways. Toward this end, we provide free college preparatory enrichment and guidance for 7th through 12th-grade students in Detroit, Southfield, Ypsilanti, and 10th through 12th in Grand Rapids.     Responsibilities*

    Advising/Coaching - (75%)

    + Advise 12th graders and their families in completing the college exploration and selection process

    + Help scholars complete college and financial aid applications

    + Provide one-on-one advising on these and other related matters (e.g., completing FAFSA, CSS Profile, evaluation of scholarship options) and direct them to pertinent resources and offices as warranted

    + Facilitate college advising services to students through individual student meetings, classroom lessons, and college preparation and financial aid events;

    + Track application progress, college acceptances, and scholarship awards

    + Facilitate and/or monitor synchronous whole group and half group sessions with guest presenters and scholars on college preparatory topics

    + Support scholars and families by providing knowledge around financial aid and theinterpretation of award letters and financial aid and the interpretation of award letters and financial aid packages

    Programming support (25%)

    + Assist with planning and staffing Wolverine Pathways virtual and in-person events

    + College advisors will work four Saturday virtual college prep sessions in the Fall and at least two Saturday in-person programs

    + College advisors will support 7-8 programs in the Winter semester that take place on evenings and weekends

    + College advisors will support WP summer programming, which takes place from July 7th to August 1st (in person, daily).

    + Regularly check in with scholars and families around their academics, program participation, college applications, and applications for WP summer programs

    + Participate in WP staff meetings and professional development opportunities to stay abreast of changes related to education and college readiness

    + Support the Associate Director and Program Manager for College Access in maintaining consistent scholar and family engagement, application completion, and the integrity of the college preparation scope and sequence

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree in a Liberal Arts field;

    + At least 2 years of experience providing college advising;

    + Prior experience working with high school and college students, including low-income and underrepresented populations;

    + Project and process management skills; Experience managing large events from start to finish;

    + Demonstrated experience using a database to manage student information, monitor success, and identify challenges;

    + Evening and weekend availability in addition to regular work schedule and travel to remote programming sites if warranted;

    + Excellent administrative skills and proficiency in online classroom management;

    + Background or experience with diverse populations;

    + Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

     

    Work Schedule

     

    This is a hybrid position, with on-site work in Ann Arbor, Michigan. During the fall and winter, candidates are expected to work on several Saturdays and also support some weekday evening programming. In July, in-person work is required Monday through Friday.
