GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE** **FUNCTION

The **Thurgood Marshall College Fund Soaring, Observing and Achieving Results (SOAR) HBCU Scholars Program Mentor** will provide essential support in organizing and overseeing camp activities. This role involves assisting with the daily operations of the camp, supporting high school participants, and ensuring a smooth and efficient experience for both campers and staff. The mentor will play a key role in fostering a positive and productive camp environment.

+ Able to work some evenings and weekends.
EDUCATION AND/OR** **EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree in General Studies or a related field, or completion of at least 30 hours of college coursework.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** , include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
+ Positive role model with strong leadership and communication skills.
+ Ability to engage and motivate high school students.
+ Strong organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
+ Flexibility, patience, and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Mentor and supervise SOAR high school participants during all activities.
+ Lead group discussions, team-building exercises, and reflections.
+ Enforce camp rules and maintain a safe, inclusive environment.
+ Assist with camp sessions, activities, and field trips.
+ Serve as a residential assistant during the overnight camp week.
+ Attend daily staff meetings and communicate camper progress.
+ Encourage students’ academic achievement and leadership development.
+ Represent SOAR Summer Camp and Hinds Community College professionally.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
