As a Manager, Data Engineering, you will lead a team responsible for designing, building, and managing scalable data pipelines and systems using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and big data technologies. You will oversee the development and optimization of data workflows, focusing on ETL processes and data warehousing, while driving Agile practices to ensure efficient delivery. Your leadership will enable the team to deliver high-quality solutions that support organizational goals, leveraging big data to generate actionable insights.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage team performance and growth through clear objectives, regular 1:1s, and tailored development plans
2. Oversee Agile and Jira adoption to streamline workflows, ensuring effective sprint planning and retrospectives.
3. Define and execute development processes, including code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and Git workflows, to ensure quality deliverables.
4. Monitor team performance metrics (e.g., velocity, code quality) to identify and address bottlenecks.
5. Drive QA processes by defining testing strategies and overseeing automated testing for data pipelines.
6. Provide technical leadership to solve data engineering challenges, like optimizing ETL/ELT workflows and troubleshooting production issues.
7. Manage the lifecycle of data engineering projects, from design to deployment, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
8. Mentor the team on data engineering best practices, including data modeling, performance optimization, and governance.
9. Support the team in building scalable data ecosystems on GCP for structured and unstructured data.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
+ Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years equivalent professional experience
Required Experience:
+ Minimum 5 years of software development and architecture experience, focusing on designing and implementing scalable systems.
+ Minimum 3 years of management experience, leading technical teams in a data engineering or software development environment.
+ Minimum 4 years of Agile experience, including implementation and management of Agile methodologies in software or data engineering projects.
+ Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including designing and managing big data workflows.
+ Minimum 2 years of experience working with big data technologies to process and analyze large-scale datasets.
+ Ability to work independently, manage small engagements or parts of large engagements.
+ Minimum of 2 years of Jira experience in an Agile environment
Preferred Experience:
+ Advanced expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including optimizing big data workflows and leveraging advanced GCP services like BigQuery.
+ Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to support data integration and transformation.
+ Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and implementation, including designing and managing scalable data warehouses.
+ 2+ years of experience working with big data technologies to process and analyze large-scale datasets.
Computer Skills Required:
+ Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (MS Visio, MS PowerPoint).
+ Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment.
