    Job Description

    **Position Title:** Mine Engineer I, II, III, or Sr

    OPEN UNTIL FILLED

    **Department/Location:** Energy Market & DCC

    Position Purpose:

    An entry-level position, that operates under direction, to support engineering and operational activities such as mine planning, surveying, drilling and blasting, and compliance tracking in addition to supporting safety, fiscal, legal, marketing, budgetary, and environmental activities of the Dakota Coal Company (DCC), Wyoming Lime Producers (WLP), Montana Limestone Company (MLC) and Big Horn Limestone Company (BHLC). Adheres to all health, safety, and environmental rules & regulations.

    Essential Functions:

    + Actively participate in safety reviews, audits, and other safety activities.

    + Assist in the administration of agreements related to lime, limestone, lignite coal, and other agreements.

    + Learn and apply all site safety standards and MSHA regulations.

    + Compile production and quality data for internal reporting related to lime, limestone, & lignite coal.

    + Assist with compliance efforts with regulatory, permitting, and environmental obligations.

    + Assist in creating daily and weekly production plans.

    + Collect and record field data (e.g., drill logs, blast results, equipment cycle times).

    + Perform surveying tasks and assist in updating pit and stockpile maps.

    + Support drill and blast operations by preparing hole layouts and loading plans.

    + Assist in creating the short and long range mining plan, including reclamation, and the management of the limestone reserves.

    + Assist in creating an equipment replacement program for.

    + Assist in the development of the operating and capital budgets.

    + Assist in the administration of the supplies, material, and services for the quarry, fine grind plant and rail loadout facilities.

    + Participate in training programs and cross-functional job shadowing to develop technical and operational understanding.

    Qualifications** **:

    Mine Engineer I:

    + Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited civil or mining engineering program.

    Mine Engineer II:

    + Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited civil or mining engineering program; and

    + 3 years of mining experience.

    + Working knowledge of MSHA regulations.

    Mine Engineer III:

    + Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited civil or mining engineering program; and 6 years of mining experience.

    + Working knowledge of MSHA regulations.

    + Demonstrated project management experience.

    Senior Mine Engineer:

    + Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited civil or mining engineering program; and

    + 10 years of mining experience.

    + Working knowledge of MSHA regulations.

    + Proven leadership in technical strategy, operations, and people development.

    + Strong business acumen and ability to lead cross functional initiatives.

    + Demonstrated project management experience.

    + Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Advanced proficiency with mine planning and geological modeling software advanced proficiency with mine planning and geological modeling software.

    Other Requirements:

    + A valid driver’s license.

    + DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration non-CDL qualified.

    + Good organizational and analysis skills; and creative problem-solving skills.

    + Good technical writing skills and strong communication, collaboration and teamwork skills.

    + Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

    + Agility to adjust and respond to continually changing priorities.

    + Strong communication, collaboration and teamwork skills.

    + Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, preferred.

    Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

    This position requires frequent sitting and lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds; and occasional standing/walking, bending/reaching, kneeling, climbing, crawling, pushing/pulling up to 15 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. This position requires use of keyboard/computer and occasionally working at heights up to 250 feet. This position requires good finger dexterity, hand coordination, good hearing and good vision. The incumbent may occasionally work in confined spaces, and be exposed to extreme heat/ cold, dirt, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise. The incumbent must be able to analyze data/reports, conduct research, implement recommendations, coordinate projects, develop plans, present information to others, and work under pressure to complete assignments. This position must be respirator qualified and able to operate a motor vehicle. Approximately 75 percent of job activities are performed in an office environment with the balance performed at plant operations, customer plants, and business.
