This position serves our partners at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). MNIT DNR provides comprehensive IT operations and support services, custom application development, and dedicated support functions to an organization that manages and conserves the state’s natural resources in a way that creates a sustainable quality of life for all Minnesotans.

     

    _*This position is temporary, includes full state fringe benefits, and is anticipated to last up to two (2) years._

     

    _*This position may be expected to provide weekend support either by working weekends in lieu of a weekday, or by being on call._

     

    As an Application Support Specialist for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), you will work with the Enforcement IT Business Services Supervisor to provide advanced technical support, data and application support, technical documentation and training, and equipment management for information technology unique to business practices and processes of the DNR Enforcement Division.

     

    This position requires an employee to be onsite in St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

    This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in Information Technology or Computer Science field in an application support capacity.

    Experience must include:

    + End user application, hardware, networking, and software troubleshooting, support and user training through a variety of methods to include remote support and training tools, or both.

    + Knowledge of service management tools for end user technical support.

    + Hardware troubleshooting and support ( _e.g.,_ laptops, mobile devices, air cards/modems, printers).

    + Software applications and operating systems ( _e.g.,_ networking software, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Windows 10 and newer).

    + Relational database design and development knowledge, and experience writing SQL queries.

    + Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

    + Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

    A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience supporting Law Enforcement staff and their hardware, software, and technical tools.

    + Demonstrated ability to use a scripting language such as Python.

    + Knowledge of software packaging and computer imaging.

    + Experience supporting commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software packages in a management and configuration role.

    + Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform productivity and reporting tools.

    + Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS), preferably Esri ArcGIS.

    + Natural Resources background.
