I. Position Summary:
Performs ultrasound scans using real-time high frequency ultrasonic waves and high technology equipment, ensures that quality patient care is provided.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Ultrasound Supervisor
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: Constant contact with other imaging personnel,
patients, radiologists and staff physicians. Frequent contact with other personnel and patient's relatives.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Overall:
Performs ultrasound scans using real-time high frequency ultrasonic waves and high technology equipment, stays current on this technology and ensures that quality patient care is provided.
B. Work Performed:
1. Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
2. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
3. Participates in and promotes the "I CARE Advantage" service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
4. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
5. Performs all ultrasound exams in a filmless environment as directed by physicians. Works closely with radiologists to provide a quality examination for accurate diagnosis.
6. Can operate PACS/RIS equipment competently.
7. Reports equipment failure as necessary. Prepares and maintains records and reports for this area.
8. Maintains supplies for the area at appropriate levels. Maintains organization and cleanliness of room.
9. Works with sonography students assisting in training and education.
10. Participates in the call schedule.
IV. Performance Factors Used to Evaluate Employee:
A. Performs sonography procedures in health care delivery to the following patient age categories (circle all that may apply):
1. newborn/infant
2. pediatric (0-16-y.o.)
3. adolescent
4. adult
5. geriatric
B. Ultrasound exams are consistent and of high quality.
C. Examinations are performed efficiently in an electronic environment. Images are transmitted to radiologist promptly.
D. Utilizes RIS/PACS equipment appropriately and efficiently. Understands and follows downtime procedures as necessary.
E. Assists physicians as necessary, including biopsies, additional imaging, etc.
F. Attends educational activities as necessary. Maintains adequate CEU's as required by registry.
G. Workflow is smooth and patient complaints are minimal.
H. Participates equally in on-call time, response time is 30 minutes or less.
I. Is a team player promoting a spirit of cooperation within the Ultrasound Department.
J. Area is kept clean and neat.
V. Qualifications:
A. Education:
Must be a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in two areas of certification. Current BLS certification through American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
C. Job Knowledge:
This position requires initiative and independent judgment. Person must be able to perform exams independently, quickly and accurately.
VI. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Occasionally required to lift and position patients for procedures.
B. Possible hazardous exposure to infectious diseases or radiation exposure.
