Overview:

Serve as a strategic partner and second line of defense that provides comprehensive financial support to core Business Line (Commercial, Consumer, Wealth/Institutional Services, Support Units) by overseeing the business line finance responsibilities and serving as the lead financial liaison to external examiners. Sets financial strategies and direction for the business line that support leadership’s strategic priorities, acts as a member of the division’s senior leadership team and brings perspective from both an internal to M&T and a market/industry platform. Maintains an environment of strong compliance and risk management providing control, insuring quality and accuracy of financial reporting. Provides an independent view of financial matters and utilizes financial and business metrics to help business leaders drive performance and realize targeted outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Builds a core business review that clearly states the strategic priorities of the business line along with the related success measures and projected financial outcomes to establish the direction of the business, products, and markets.This is accomplished by consistent analysis of the market place/competition; leadership direction of the organization and identification of client needs.

+ Assists in the development of the business plan.Monitors the business performance in accordance with industry/market/plan and year over year growth.

+ Oversees and sets strategy for the division’s business line Finance team.This team produces monthly Profit and Loss statements with analysis and explanation to business leaders and utilizes leading indicator Business Performance Measures to assess business direction and pending risk/opportunity.

+ Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.

+ Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

+ Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

+ Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Manages subordinate managers. Full supervisory, development of team through professional leadership. Possess ability to direct/persuade/influence across division and peers throughout the bank.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 11 years’ experience in Finance, Business or a related field with 4 years’ managerial experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 15 years’ higher education and/or work experience with 4 years’ managerial experience

Strong analytical ability and creative problem solving-skills, including knowledge and application of financial concepts and strategies

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities

Strong interpersonal skills and maturity to build relationships and interact from a business as well as a technical standpoint

In-depth knowledge of the banking industry and related financial governance and risk management principles

Education and Experience Preferred:

Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration

CPA

Experience leading a business/P&L

Experience in financial planning and analysis, accounting, strategic planning with financial services industry

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $140,621.49 - $234,369.15 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
