The Adel DeSoto Minburn Community School District is in need of a full-time nursing position beginning the 2025-2026 school year. This position is for the DeSoto Intermediate building, a progressive school serving fifth and sixth grades with a passionate and collaborative staff. DeSoto Intermediate educates approximately 375 students and is located directly west of Waukee on the edge of the Des Moines metropolitan area. QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Valid state license to practice as a registered nurse.

+ Certificate as public school nurse or any other certificate required by the state.

REPORTS TO : Superintendent and Building Principal JOB GOAL: To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

+ Candidates must lead with humility and strive for continuous improvement.

+ Conduct or assist with school programs of immunization validation, vision and hearing testing, and scoliosis check.

+ Assume responsibility for referral of students in need of medical and dental care.

+ Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.

+ Observe students on a regular basis to detect health needs.

+ Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.

+ Support the director of special education by overseeing Medicaid billing completion and submission.

+ Authorize exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.

+ Advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects, physical limitations, use of health aides, etc.

+ Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools.

+ Administer first aid in accordance with established procedures.

+ Participate in in-service training programs.

+ Operate in accordance with board policies and sees that all policies of the board pertaining to employee's area of jurisdiction are implemented.

+ Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the board.
