Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
The CareerReady Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) model is designed to strengthen connections between academic learning and summer career exploration, while providing youth with summer employment and educational experiences. These principles include engaging the talents and interests of youth, developing their skills and competencies, and providing positive adult role models.
Position: Temporary SYEP Instructor
Reports To: CareerReady SYEP Program Director
What The Temporary SYEP Instructor Does:
+ Develop and/or adapt six-week project-based future-readiness curriculum, integrating career-readiness and leadership skills distinct and relevant to the modern world.
+ Instruct one group of approximately 15 Younger Youth (14- and 15-year-olds), using a hybrid model that combines both classroom and virtual instruction with experiential learning (including guest speakers and field trips).
+ Arrange field trips, guest speakers, and any other experiential activities.
+ Maintain fastidious daily records as students are paid a stipend from the city based on their performance and attendance.
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher, plus two years of applicable and/or equivalent experience.
+ Must possess up-to-date Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance and maintain it throughout the duration of employment
Other Requirements:
+ Demonstrated successful experience teaching high school students (preferably freshmen and sophomores).
+ The ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally as well as the ability to reply immediately to calls and messages.
Compensation: $20.60 hourly
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
Status: Temporary Full-time (35 hours per week) (June-August 2025)
