Description
We are seeking experienced Cable Technicians in Ames, IA with at least 2+ years of experience in commercial environments. This role will involve the installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure including copper and fiber optic cabling. A strong work ethic, ability to travel, and a team-oriented personality are essential. This is not a data center role.
100% ONSITE IN AMES, IA. MUST be US Citizen/Green Card Holder. MUST have a valid Driver's License. This is a Contract-to-Hire Opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Pulling and routing CAT5/CAT6 cable in new construction and commercial remodels
+ Terminating phone jacks, patch panels, and dressing distribution frames (66 or 110 blocks)
+ Installing cable support structures: ladder racks, j-hooks, and equipment racks
+ Testing and certifying cable using digital multimeters and industry tools
+ Performing rack and stack work including server rack builds and network closet organization
+ Fiber optic work including splicing, SC/LC connectors, and anaerobic terminations
+ Reading and interpreting schematic and line diagrams
+ Occasionally working with door access control systems
+ Adhering to industry standards such as BICSI, EIA/TIA, and NEC
Requirements
Qualifications:
+ Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience as a cable technician in commercial environments
+ Strong familiarity with low-voltage systems; any high-voltage exposure is a plus
+ Experience with fiber testing, cable certification, and installation best practices
+ Valid driver’s license required
+ Ability and willingness to travel for regional and national projects
+ Ability to work independently or in team environments with Leads/Foremen
+ Strong communication skills and professional demeanor
•Preferred Skills:
+ Experience training others in low-voltage installations
+ Knowledge of access point installations and cabling requirements
+ Prior exposure to conduit work and infrastructure setup
