**Pay Range:** $136,136 - $228,716
Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
Summary:
Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel – Higher Education will be responsible for supporting the Senior Associate General Counsel in oversight and management of legal matters for Rush University. This role will partner with others in Rush Legal as well as other departments and leaders throughout the University, including student affairs, the office of research affairs, faculty committees, compliance, philanthropy, and the office of financial aid. The role will provide legal counsel to the University on the full range of higher education matters.
Requirements:
+ Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited institution is required.
+ Must be licensed to practice law in Illinois.
+ 2-3 years of legal experience is required.
+ Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including a timely and responsive communication style.
+ Strong organizational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects and appropriately prioritize to adhere to strict deadlines.
+ Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and properly handle sensitive information.
+ Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well in a team environment.
+ Ability to take a proactive and directive approach in problem-solving.
+ Ability to serve as the legal lead on a wide variety of university matters.
+ Comfortable, and excited by, working in a fast-pace high activity environment.
+ Ability to effectively work with various departments and levels and manage multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with higher education law and experience in working with universities is strongly desired.
Responsibilities:
+ Assist Senior Associate General Counsel in providing day-to-day counsel to Rush University on a wide variety of higher education issues, including, but not limited to, interpretation and application of governing documents and policies; student complaints, accommodations, and other student-related matters; compliance with accreditation requirements and other external regulations; and grant funding and research compliance matters.
+ Collaborate with the Graduate Medical Education Office and Contracts Review to establish resident and fellowship rotations in compliance with applicable laws and develop affiliation agreements and related contracts.
+ Provide legal counsel to the Office of Research Affairs on clinical studies, grant funding issues, and research agreements.
+ Provide legal counsel on research compliance matters, including potential research misconduct and external or government inquiries.
+ Provide legal counsel on compliance with ACGME Regulations and other applicable accreditation and regulatory requirements.
+ Respond to external requests for information, including subpoenas for university or student records and external reporting obligations.
+ Review and revise university policies and procedures, committee charters, and other governing documents.
+ Collaborate with university and college committees on the development, interpretation, and application of policies and procedures.
+ Provide timely and substantive legal counsel on changing federal, state, and local laws and regulations impacting higher education.
