Job Description
The Practice Associate ensures maximum reimbursement to the institution by performing all support functions related to financial pre-clearance of clinic patients, or outpatients. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling, pre-registration, self-pay screening and insurance eligibility determination. Obtains and verifies patient demographic and insurance information, determines insurance / payment source, identifies necessary authorization or referral requirements, and assists with identification/resolution of insurance issues.

1 year, preferably directly related with health care registration or insurance verification.

Responsibilities
1. Ensures proper insurance company, plan choice and prioritization is assigned in the system.
2. Gathers registration and financial information for financial pre-processing of patients, enters information in the appropriate computer system, and ensures that the information is complete and accurate.
3. Under set procedures, schedules, reschedules and cancels patient appointments.
4. Contacts patients at home to verify, reschedule or cancel appointments, and sends reminders.
5. Ensures arrival and disposition of all patients, according to existing policies and procedures.
6. Investigates patient information coverage and under established procedures ensures payment from insurance plans including Medicare, Medicaid, as well as self-payers.
7. Coordinates with third party payers regarding information for appropriate financial processing of patients.
8. Determines self-pay sliding scale status for uninsured patients by requesting appropriate financial processing of patients.
9. Verifies referrals, authorizations or insurance eligibility by contacting insurance carriers. Assures financial clearance of patients, and maintains files of financial clearance information.
10. Secures referrals authorizations and logs in the appropriate tracking system.
11. Determines need for and processing of the Threshold Override Applications for Medicaid eligibility.
12. Ensures prior approval and requirements are met prior to delivery of care, by working collaboratively with other hospital departments on developing and implementing systems.
13. Communicates to Patient Accounts any negotiated payment arrangement for appropriate billing.
14. Participates in system development and improvement by providing feedback to Manager regarding issues in registration and change posting that impact negatively on operations.
15. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Compensation Statement
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $27.3092 - $29.6197 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
