Job Title: Lab Technician

Job Description

As a Lab Technician, you will play a crucial role in preparing specimens for laboratory testing and ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory instruments and processes. Your work will directly contribute to the life-saving efforts across the community, supporting various hospitals.

Responsibilities

+ Prepare clinical samples and products for testing, including accessioning and processing, following laboratory protocols.

+ Set up instruments for automated laboratory tasks, maintain instruments, and prepare reagents as requested.

+ Document and transcribe quality control measures and train back-up staff as necessary.

+ Maintain sample inventories, update computer databases for sample storage, and fix errors in data entry.

+ Observe and support good health and safety practices, ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information.

+ Respond to emergency staffing situations and assist with laboratory maintenance tasks as needed.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 2 years college education in biology or related field plus 3 years of experience in a life science or chemistry laboratory; or 4 years college education plus 1 year laboratory experience.

+ Hands-on experience with sample handling, quantitative chemical analysis, enzyme assays, and laboratory procedures.

+ Knowledge of computer use including moderately advanced Microsoft Excel.

+ Experience with operating laboratory instruments such as automated measurement instruments.

+ Critical thinking and ability to implement corrective actions when needed.

+ Highly attentive to detail and able to handle a large number of samples accurately.

+ Effective communication skills in spoken and written English with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with handling biohazardous material.

+ Ability to complete basic decontamination and sanitation tasks.

+ Experience in a cold lab setting is preferred but not required.

+ Some education in a scientific field; classes taken at a community college or technical school are needed.

Work Environment

The team consists of 11 Lab Techs, 1 Lab Assistant, and 3-4 Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLSs). The work environment includes a cold lab setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
