The Transit Police Department is one of the fastest growing law enforcement agencies in the state due the expansion of light rail and Rapid Transit Bus systems. There is an authorized strength of 171 full-time officers, 80 part-time officers, 55 community service officers and 40 administrative staff dedicated to one thing: public safety on and near our transit system.
How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
TheSupervisor, Asset Protectionposition is responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining surveillance systems, key card access systems, and alarm systems in all Council facilities.
What you would do in this job
+ Management of intrusion alarms to include assisting in managing the contracts for the alarm services.
+ Issuing and management of all card access badges for Metro Transit and management of the card access system.
+ Management and maintenance of time-locked entries to facilities throughout the system.
+ Installation, maintenance and management of all CCTV systems throughout the transit system.
+ Recover video from CCTV systems and on-board CCTV systems to be used as evidence.
+ Works closely with police department investigators to identify and recover evidentiary video and well as entry logs from employee card access systems.
+ Works very closely with internal audits related to internal investigations.
+ Assists in manag ing the operating budget for Asset Protection including assisting with developing the budget request and performing the necessary procurement processes including issue requests for quotes, RFPs, and evaluating bid documents.
+ Assists with the necessary procurement processes for the Asset Protection group and provides input for capital budget needs.
+ Works closely with Engineering and Facilities and with the New Starts Project Offices on the required security needs for new projects / facilities (i.e. Card access, compatible door locks, CCTV, etc.).
+ Assists in managing several contracts for regular service and maintenance to security systems throughout the transit system (card access, CCTV, door locks, alarms, etc.).
+ Supervises the AP staff, creates regular work assignments, approves leave, and completes annual performance evaluations.
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Any of the following combinations of experience (in computers, computer networking, electronics, video or security technology, or related field) and completed education (in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Business Administration or related field):
+ High school diploma/GED with eight (8) years of experience, including one (1) year of supervision, lead work, or providing work direction to other employees*.
+ Associates degree with six (6) years of experience, including one (1) year of supervision, lead work, or providing work direction to other employees*.
+ Bachelor’s degree, or higher, with four (4) year of experience, including one (1) year of supervision, lead work, or providing work direction to other employees*.
License Requirement: A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
* Metropolitan Council Employees Only: Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience. You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to your application. Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit (6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.
Metro Transit Leadership Academy = 1 year
Project Management Development Program (12-month session) = 1 year
Project Management Development Program (6-month session) = 6 months
Four Learning Institute Certificates - You must obtain all four certificates listed below to receive credit for 6 months supervisory experience.

Failure to be cleared by BCA will automatically nullify any job offer extended. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
