THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Service Occupations Teacher (Optical Assistant), you will provide vocational instruction in eye glass preparation to inmate students at SCI Chester. You will evaluate inmate potential for consideration and placement in the program curriculum and adapt materials to meet the needs of students. You will provide classroom and shop instruction, assign and evaluate homework, develop and administer tests, and provide a final evaluation for each enrolled student. This role requires effective communication and the ability to establish an environment that fosters inmate learning of theories and job skills necessary for the optical services trade. In addition, you will also monitor inmate behavior, establish classroom rules and procedures, and discipline disruptive students by taking appropriate corrective action including proper documentation of actions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
+ Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
+ Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
+ If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
+ Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this position is Optical Assistant/Eye Glass Preparation. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 3 years.
Special Requirements:
+ You must be in p ossession of or have eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate 1 or 2 for the specified parenthetical; or
+ You must be in p ossession of or have eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
+ You must have e ligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

+ Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
