THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a Highway Equipment Manager 1 to support Wayne County Maintenance Organization in overseeing the comprehensive fleet management program. This role entails the responsibility for the repair, maintenance, and dispatching of the diesel and automotive fleet in the region, working closely with a team that includes a Mechanic Supervisor, Automotive and Diesel Mechanics, as well as other garage personnel to ensure efficient operations and optimal performance of the fleet.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will assist in managing the diesel and automotive fleet for Wayne County, which includes assigning vehicles and coordinating maintenance and repairs. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the maintenance, repair, and dispatch of both automotive and highway maintenance equipment. This role involves supervising the Wayne County garage and its personnel tasked with these duties. You will also be accountable for the maintenance of the facilities used for equipment storage and upkeep. Regular inspections of the buildings housing automotive and highway equipment will be required to ensure optimal facility use, maintenance, and safety standards. Additionally, you will plan and implement a preventative maintenance program aimed at maximizing the operational efficiency of all equipment, while also making recommendations for corrective actions. You will schedule training and certification for Equipment Operators and Mechanics, coordinating training locations and notifying staff of upcoming sessions. Monitoring the training process and instructors will be essential to ensure the effectiveness of the content and methods used. Furthermore, you will certify operators locally and at the EPTA and WPTA for various specialized certifications, and conduct training for off-road equipment operators and mechanics as necessary.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Honesdale.
+ This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS)
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Two years of experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines and other components of heavy highway maintenance and construction vehicles and equipment including one year of such experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
+ This position requires possession of a valid Class B or Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake restriction removed.
+ This position requires Tank (N) or Hazmat (H) or Tank/Hazmat (X) endorsements.
+ This position requires valid PA Class 7 or Class 4 Inspection Mechanic Certification.
Other Requirements:
+ You must obtain a Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with in the first six months of employment.
