Position Summary: To provide high quality nursing care for Operating Room patients in accordance with nursing standards of practice. To maintain collaborative relationships with other nursing staff members, physician and ancillary staff to provide this care. To actively participate in the orientation of new staff. To maintain an appropriate level of knowledge and clinical expertise through continuing education/inservice programs and self‐development activities. Essential Functions: Attends and participates in educational meetings and attends inservices concerning surgery. Serves on hospital committees, attends supervisory meetings and must be a member of the Infection Control Committee. Plans the overall operation of the operating room service. Provides ongoing orientation and staff development. Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective working relationships with surgeons, anesthesia, operating room personnel and nursing service. Reports on and off duty as scheduled. Conducts evaluations of personnel performance. Knowledge of operating room budget and maintenance. Maintains daily operating room schedule. Maintains operating room records, prepares and submits reports. Organizes and updates periodically the Operating Room Policy and Procedure Manual and ensures adherence to these policies and procedures. Organizes, directs and supervises the nursing personnel of the operating room Oversees adherence to sterile technique, availability of supplies, traffic control within the operating room suite and patient teaching concerning surgery. Other Duties: Assumes duties of RNFA, circulatory nurse, recovery room nurse and central supply personnel as needed. Utilizes staff meetings and other appropriate channels to resolve problems. Performs other duties as assigned. Assumes leadership responsibility when appropriate. Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility and priority setting in patient care. Demonstrates willingness to accept non‐routine work assignments as appropriate. Maintains collaborative relationships with all the members of the healthcare team. Organizes and leads the Operating Room Staff meetings. Recognizes and utilizes opportunities to teach other staff members. Supports the philosophy of the nursing department. Tracks Quality Indicators and statistical information and reports on a quarterly basis.
