    JOB PURPOSE:

    Works under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and is responsible for managing a staff of pharmacy technicians responsible for the control room and cubex/emergency box operations.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Supervise staff of the Pharmacy Control Room Technicians by interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, making work assignments and evaluating job performance.

    2. Establish work procedures in collaboration with Pharmacy Manager and assign priority to coordinate workflow for the control room and cubex dispensing activities.

    3. Perform routine staff duties of Control Room Pharmacy Technicians including, but not limited to, selecting the correct medication order to be dispensed, packing medications in appropriate container, generating labels, stocking supplies, filling of emergency boxes and cubex as required, and filling prepack medications for stock and dispensing.

    4. Provide assistance to the Pharmacy Manager regarding personnel actions, workflow and dispensing operations.

    5. Be a member of the Quality Assurance Program focusing on improving the overall quality of the pharmacy.

    6. Coordinate shift replacements for proper manpower coverage.

    7. Supervise completion and documentation of medication storage area inspections at least monthly.

    8. Collect data, conduct quality monitors and complete documentation as assigned.

    9. Orient and train new partners.

    10. Oversee dispensing operations with regard to controlled (scheduled) medications that include, but not limited to, dispensing, packing, stocking medications, maintaining records, and conducting periodic inventory of controlled medications. Also, responsible for resolving any discrepancies that are identified daily.

    11. Periodically assess the Framework/LTC batch status monitor and other automated tools to determine workflow, dispensing, and toting needs. This includes notifying other departments (Order Entry, Triage, Pharmacists, Dispensing) of workflow needs.

    12. Document Cubex dispensing cabinet metrics.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

    • Ability to lead technician partners to improve efficiency and quality of pharmacy operations.

    • Understand and participate in quality performance improvement activities.

    • Ability to develop a plan to continually train and educate partners in processes related to control room/emergency box dispensing operations.

    • Participate in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.

    • Attend and participate in mandatory in-services.

    • Honor patients/residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.

    • Comply with corporate compliance program.

    • Report job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary.

    • Follow established safety regulations, to include fire protection and prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.

    • Follow established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment.

    • Perform other related duties as necessary and as directed by supervisor

    • Skill in use of the phone system, computers, computer-based programs and other types of office equipment.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

    High School Diploma

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    Two Years Pharmacy Technician Experience

    MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

    Pharmacy Technician Registration with the State Board of Pharmacy

    Preferred Pharmacy Technician Certification

    Able to Supervise Pharmacy Technicians

     

    Knowledge of medication names and medical terminology.

     

    Knowledge of pharmacy law regarding controlled substances.

     

    Computer skills.
