    Job Summary

    The University of Michigan Investment Office would like to add an experienced team member with a desire to achieve results and who exhibits a passion for investing as a Principal Investment Professional.

     

    Reporting to the Senior Managing Director for Private Equity and Venture Capital, you will support the $8+ billion venture and private equity portfolio by assisting with the development of its investment pipeline, monitoring of investment opportunities, fulfillment of reporting needs, creation of analytical models, and leadership of special projects.

The Investment Office staff works with many of the top investment managers globally to provide the financial resources necessary to ensure the long-term success of one of the world's great teaching and research institutions.

    Responsibilities*

    You will provide leadership for managing the portfolio and take on increasing responsibilities:

    + Source or maintain a pipeline of compelling opportunities, including co-investments.

    + Conduct due diligence on prospective opportunities.

    + Monitor and review the performance.

    + Prepare investment reports on performance, asset allocation, and risk characteristics of portfolios.

    + Review and negotiate investment documentation and collaborating with internal and external counsel.

    + Keep current on investment trends and contributing to investment discussions and initiatives involving all investment classes in the endowment portfolio.

    + Represent the university externally, including meetings with fund managers, fund advisory boards, and industry conferences.

    + Ensure a culture of inclusion and mutual respect within the Investment Office and promoting the university's initiatives regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    + Identify and resolve standard investment accounting, performance measurement and compliance issues.

    + Lead and/or mentor junior team members.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree with 6 or more years of progressive investment related experience.

    + Ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative analysis into investment evaluations.

    + Portfolio construction experience.

    + Exposure or leadership in multiple investment classes and non-investment academic or professional experiences.

    + A desire to establish positive working relationships demonstrating integrity, honesty, loyalty, and a high degree of ethical propriety.

    + Travel is a requirement of the role, which could be significant, and includes travel outside the United States, for purposes of performing due diligence, investment manager monitoring, and attending market related conferences.

    + An analytical skills test (up to 2 hours allowed) will be required as part of the interview process.

    + Advanced Degree or MBA

    + CFA charterholder

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Onsite work is required for the first six months of employment in the role. Upon satisfactory performance during the first six months, a hybrid work arrangement may be an option. Hybrid work requires the employee to be onsite at least 50% of the month.
