    Job Summary

    The Michigan Value Collaborative (MVC), housed at the University of Michigan, is seeking a detail-oriented self-starter to join the team in the role of Manager of Data Analytics. Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are critical to this role.

     

    The MVC is a statewide hospital and physician organization collaborative quality initiative (CQI), aiming to improve the health of Michigan through sustainable, high-value healthcare and enable Michigan patients to access the right care, at the right cost, at the right time. MVC provides hospital and physician organization leaders with claims-based healthcare utilization data to empower local quality improvement activities. In addition to leveraging claims data, the MVC team support a number of platforms to help facilitate collaboration and the sharing of best practices between its members.

     

    The Manager of Data Analytics leads a highly functional team of data analysts in providing direct support services to hospital members and partner CQIs. This individual is responsible for the delivery of all MVC analytic services, data operations, methodologic improvements, and performance reporting. The Analytics team utilizes medical claims datasets, among other sources, from both private, state, and federal payers to assess variation in health care quality and cost and identify areas of opportunity for hospitals and providers.

     

    In this position, you will work with a highly collaborative group of clinicians, economists, health services researchers, and analysts. This position is an excellent opportunity to advance your management and supervisory skills, gain additional expertise in data management and analysis, as well as a broad range of healthcare reimbursement and payment reform programs.

     

    Candidates for this position must be excellent communicators with the ability to manage multiple projects and direct reports at one time. Candidates must also be confident decision-makers that are adept at finding solutions to complex problems. The person in this role will be expected to provide ongoing mentorship to analytic team members.

    Responsibilities*

    + Responsible for all analytic services, data operations, and performance reporting for the Michigan Value Collaborative (MVC)

    + Supervise the day-to-day activity of MVCs team of six data analysts, providing support and guidance to ensure effective completion of MVC deliverables

    + Gather, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to identify opportunities to improve the cost and quality of care for MVC members

    + Contribute to efforts related to the implementation, evaluation, and evolution of the BCBSM MVC Pay-for-Performance program

    + Ensure adherence to MVC Coordinating Center quality standards and review project deliverables to ensure accuracy

    + Present on ongoing projects and deliverables regularly to internal and external audiences

    + Support MVC Managing Director in the development, implementation, and assessment of MVCs strategic framework as it relates to MVC analytics

    + Manage analytic collaborations with other collaborative quality initiatives (CQIs) and MVC member hospitals

    + Manage collaboration with external data vendor to ensure effective database design and functionality of an online registry

    + Serve as the point of contact for analytic requests from MVC stakeholders, including other Collaborative Quality Initiatives, CQI Operations, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; triage requests from MVC stakeholders, ensuring requests are resolved in a timely manner, and monitor progress on collaborative initiatives

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelors degree in related field/discipline

    + At least 7 years of experience in a related field

    + Previous experience supervising and managing direct reports

    + Demonstrated leadership and managerial experience

    + Advanced competency in working with large datasets and utilizing statistical software (SAS preferred, but STATA, SPSS, and R are acceptable)

    + Experience working with administrative claims data

    + Experience in project management and planning

    + Excellent multi-tasking and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail, as well as ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines

    + Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills

    + Professional, team-driven attitude, and proven ability to take initiative

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Masters degree in related field/discipline

    + Expert-level competency in SAS and with administrative claims data

    + Background in project management; developing new initiatives and working with/leading a team to achieve goals in a timely manner

    + Previous experience working with the BCBSM Collaborative Quality Initiatives

    + Familiarity with University of Michigan policies, procedures, and data systems

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
