    Job Summary

    This internship position is for current University of Utah students. The Natural History Museum of Utah has an initiative to train and mentor students in the museum field. The museum provides paid internship opportunities that are an extension of the classroom to meet this goal. The registration office within Collections & Research department of the Natural History Museum of Utah ( UMNH ) seeks an intern to assist in our digitization goals. This is an entry level internship position and on‐the‐job training is provided. This internship offers the following opportunities: ‐ To gain an understanding in museum work, specifically the legalities related to collections acquisitions ‐ To understand in the museum context the importance of record retention in perpetuity ‐ To learn about the record digitization and methods of digital asset management ‐ To gain skills in museum management, use of CMS , specifically EMu.

    Responsibilities

    - Assist in completing the digitization of Registration records

     

    - Upload digitized research agreement records into the museum’s Digital Asset Management System ( DAMS )

     

    - Create a plan for efficient workflow of other legacy records, test through all legacy record types, and fine tune process

     

    - As time allows, work with Registration on a process for new record ingestion, interplay between EMu and our DAMS , and assist on general registration tasks

    While training on specific procedures will be given, we are looking for candidates with ability to learn new computer skills quickly, a distinct attention to detail. The ideal candidate would be punctual and have good time management skills. Previous experience w filing or archiving would also be helpful. Please specifically address these skills in your cover letter.
