    The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

     

    All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

    Summary

    The Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) Inmate Grievance Coordinator is responsible for investigating and documenting inmate grievances at the unit level. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

     

    Functions

     

    Collects and reviews all inmate grievances and assigns grievance number by entering data into network computer system. Determines if grievance is of non-emergency or emergency nature and notifies warden of all emergency grievances so appropriate action can be taken. Conducts in-depth investigations by interviewing grievant, witnesses, and all involved staff members and ensures compliance with procedures and time frames. Formulates responses by reviewing all evidence, including videos, witness statements, and documentation, submitting response to warden for review and signature, and forwarding response to grievant. Maintains all inmate grievance files and prepares grievance reports, including statistical data of grievance and resolutions received. Participates in policy committee meetings to provide input of needed changes and revisions to grievance policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

     

    Knowledge of correctional policies and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal laws governing the rights of inmates. Knowledge of investigative methods and techniques. Ability to investigate and analyze inmate grievances. Ability to prepare and interpret statistical report and monthly reports. Ability to organize and present clear and concise oral and written reports of findings and recommendations. Ability to research, interpret, and apply inmate due-process system and criminal justice penal system regulations and policies to the grievance process.

    Minimum Qualifications

    The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of advanced training in criminal justice, police law enforcement, correction technology, or a related field; plus two years of experience in correction administration, law enforcement, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
