Summary This National Guard position is for a AERIAL REFUELING TECHNICIAN (INSTRUCTOR) - Title 32, Position Description Number D2298000 and is part of the WI 128 OSS, Wisconsin Air National Guard. Responsibilities As a AERIAL REFUELING TECHNICIAN (INSTRUCTOR) - Title 32, GS-2185-10, you will provide ground and flight training instruction for developing, upgrading, and evaluating the skills of aerial refueling aircrew members; as the sole enlisted aircrew member performs aerial refueling technician duties on assigned missions; and assists the pilot in the operation of the aircraft by performing duties associated with cargo loading and passenger requirements. ***Indefinite positions are not permanent and have no guarantee to continued employment. Indefinite employees may be subject to separation from employment at any time with a 30 day written notification. If the position becomes permanent, employee may be converted to a permanent appointment without further competition at management's discretion.*** Requirements Conditions of Employment MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: E-5 through E-7 Conditions of Employment: National Guard Membership is required. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in flight standardization evaluation examinations to include random no notice evaluations. The incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy missions (up to 24 hours duration), must work in confined, hazardous noise areas, is subject to inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions during flight, and may operate in austere location. May be required to travel in military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments. May be required to maintain flight examiner qualification. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in-flight standardization/ evaluation examinations to include random no-notice evaluations. Required to maintain proficiency in the use of firearms. As prescribed by regulation, may be required to carry and use a concealed weapon while performing aircrew related duties. Employee must be eligible and maintain a Secret/Top Secret-SCI clearance. Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience which has provided a general knowledge of aircraft fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems and components. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the GS-2185-10 level, you must have at least 24 months of experience, education, or training involving a thorough knowledge of: electrical and mechanical principles applying to aircraft and related systems; flight theory; aircraft electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems applying to in-flight refueling system; navigation fundamentals, including chart reading; normal and emergency operation of aircraft refueling systems; flying directives; weight and balance factors; cargo tie- down techniques; minor in-flight maintenance; using survival equipment and oxygen; communication and aircraft emergency procedures; border agency clearance; dispensing and preserving food aboard aircraft; and using and interpreting diagrams, loading charts, technical publications, and flight manuals.
