    Position Summary

    This is the intermediate level of the Grid System & Optimization Tech positions. Individuals in this position provide advancing technical skills in managing grid data and device configurations for the Distribution Management System (DMS), Distribution SCADA (DSCADA), Outage Management Systems (OMS), and many other functional applications within the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) portfolio. The individual provides increasing business operational technology experience for Duke Energy's Distribution Control Center Operations and Grid Management teams and are a business technical resource for systems, data integration, and processes. They continue to develop technical skills and familiarity with numerous other corporate systems and business partners across the enterprise. Individuals in this position update and maintain the ADMS portfolio models in all jurisdictions under general oversight, integrating source data from GIS and other systems into the current configuration of the distribution grid. They are required to execute against specified timelines to ensure operational availability, grid integrity, reliability, project milestones, resource schedules and other dependencies are achieved. They perform validations within the Distribution Grid portfolio to ensure communication with electronic devices (reclosers, capacitors, regulators, and others), including substation distribution assets with oversight. These assets must be programmatically integrated to provide system alarms, events, and analogs to ensure status and control commands are sent and received as expected. Individuals in this role work with Distribution Control Center and field resources to support functional checkout of equipment. They perform validation of device configurations through checkout execution and commissioning activities which includes monitoring device performance and troubleshooting to ensure system modeling functions optimize Grid investment technology across all jurisdictions. Work is directly aligned with our operational reliability metrics, performance metrics, and regulatory commitments. This position participates in the User committees to prioritize ADMS portfolio opportunities, enhancements, upgrades, and system replacements. Individuals in this position provide technical skills for Grid Management teams to optimize standards and performance in all jurisdictions.

    Responsibilities

    + Configure the ADMS portfolio with general oversight for new device types, control screens, system performance, etc. as requested by DCCs or other stakeholders. This includes verification, troubleshooting, and addressing or escalating any issues when identified.

    + Serves as a contact for Grid Operational technical expertise, data requirements and system integrity.

    + Performs model communications links and point configurations with general oversight for remotely operated devices into DMS and SCADA systems ensuring proper device modeling and quality

    + Model applicable and assigned DSCADA databases (SCADA, ALARM, Manual/Rotational Load Shed, Control Sequence Scheduler, OAG (ICCP).

    + Create and maintain assigned DSCADA User Interface displays, including but not limited to tubulars, dashboards, summaries, and overviews utilized by DCC and Grid Management.

    + Create and maintain with general oversight the assigned YFA (Yukon Feeder Automation) self-healing team databases/configurations. Model the assigned network topology, communication, and point configurations for Self-Healing Teams into SCADA & YFA systems.

    + Prepares assigned DMS and/or OMS models. Creates the bi-weekly model save case files with general oversight utilized to upload the GE DSCADA systems to production.

    + Create assigned PI database files to be run by PI Support to add new DSCADA points/analogs to the PI Historian under general oversight. PI data is utilized to monitor Grid performance and load switching analysis.

    + Perform operational device updates or configurations in Yukon Var Mgt System (VMS) when added/removed/changed.

    + Checkout and validate that SCADA controlled devices in the field match the configuration in the software (DMS, SCADA, etc.) and providing troubleshooting support under general oversight.

    + Perform validation/test procedures, resolve issues and document that ADMS portfolio reflects the correct alarms, events, analogs, and status in the QA and production environments under general oversight. Troubleshoot issues identified during checkout/commissioning of equipment and escalate for resolution as needed.

    + Update assigned standards and quality assurance of data requirements to ensure they are understandable and accurate.

    + Provide business process feedback in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems and enhancement opportunities.

    + Identify system & business process gaps. Perform assigned data analysis and/or root cause investigation for corrective actions to eliminate future events.

    + Update user documentation and test procedures under general oversight

    Required/Basic Qualifications

    + Associates degree in Business or Other Related Degree

    + Technical degree

    + In addition to required degree, three (3) years related work experience

    + In lieu of Technical degree(s) AND 3 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 4 year(s) related work experience

    Desired Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or

    + Associates degree in Engineering Technology or

    + Associates degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering or

    + Associates degree in Electronics/Electrical Technology

    + In addition to desired degree, 3 years related work experience

    Additional Preferred Qualifications

    + 2 or 4-Year Degree in Technical or Business-related field

    + Basic power system understanding and power system analysis capabilities

    + Demonstrated working knowledge of the distribution system, substations and line equipment and associated policies, practices, and procedures

    + Good working knowledge of T&D work processes

    + Familiarity with the network topology, communication, and all point configurations for Self-Healing Teams into SCADA & YFA systems.

    + Familiarity with voltage management, switching and tagging, system automation capability, outage restoration activities and associated processes aligned with regulatory and customer obligations.

    + Knowledge of distribution grid software and technologies including: DSCADA, Distribution Management System, and Outage Management System.

    + Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

    + Behavioral competencies: innovation, collaboration skills, problem solving/decision making, and delivering results.

    + Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited direct supervision or review

    + Ability to research independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

    + Analytical abilities with proven technical and creative skills.

    + Skills in critical thinking and investigations

    + Ability to resolve issues that require initiative and sound judgment with general oversight.

    + Project Management certification (PMP or Six Sigma).

    + Change Management, BPM or BA Certification.

    + Budget or financial analysis experience.

    + Budget or financial analysis experience.
