Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director, Research Operations, the Biostatistician provides statistical expertise in the areas of study design and data analysis to investigators/researchers interested in conducting clinical or experimental studies. Responsibilities include working effectively as part of a study team in the areas of study design, design of data collection instruments, database management, statistical programming, analysis of data, statistical graphics, and writing reports that include explanations of methods used and interpretations of results obtained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Determines and carries out appropriate, advanced statistical analyses. Ensure the quality and integrity of research data through comprehensive data validation and cleaning procedures. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to interpret study and project results. Assist in the preparation of statistical aspects of regulatory submissions, as needed
Collaborate with investigators and other stakeholders to design and develop statistically sound study protocols. Aid in preparing data analysis/results sections of proposals, manuscripts, abstracts, and/or presentations.
Advises users how to best utilize database information. Assists in design of study and data collection instrumentation to best answer questions. Communicates with key entry staff for accurate entry of data
Writes computer programs to analyze data using available statistical software. Remain current on advancements in statistical methods. Edits, organizes and maintains computerized data files.
Handles multiple simultaneous projects and/or multiple aspects of a large project.
Prepares and delivers presentations and educational materials regarding study design and statistical testing for trainees and faculty. Mentor and guide trainees and faculty on statistical methods, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
Participate in journal clubs and/or other sessions covering critical appraisal of the literature.
Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures or other applicable standards (i.e. HIPAA regulations).
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Masters of Science in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from an accredited institution.
Preferred Education:
PhD in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from an accredited institution.
Required Experience:
Proficiency in database management, statistical analytical software (SPSS©, MiniTab©, SAS©, Python, or R©), and Microsoft Office© products). Experience with preparing manuscripts and presentations, as well as familiarity with the submission process. The individual must exhibit a high degree of ethics and motivation, work with minimal supervision, work effectively within a virtual group setting, be able to handle time management of multiple simultaneous projects, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex statistical concepts and results to non-statistical audiences, and possess critical thinking skills and decisive judgment
Preferred Experience:
Three years of experience in biostatistical analysis within a clinical research or healthcare setting. Knowledge or proficiency in medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology. Training in a health-related field. Proven experience of collaboration through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national conferences.
Computer Skills Required:
SPSS©, MiniTab©, SAS© and/or R©), Microsoft Office products and Google Suite.
