This position is responsible for the modification and maintenance of complex inputs into the simulation model for electricity Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) markets. This position must work closely with several departments within the Cooperative to coordinate and analyze model outputs, including frequent back casting to improve accuracy of delivered outputs. This position will use the model to project energy revenue and costs associated with energy and capacity obligations, including predicting generation from Basin Electric facilities, integrating long- term power contracts, whether purchases or sales, as well as predicting short term balancing needs for the same period. The incumbent will facilitate the integration of model outputs from this process into financial forecasting models for multiple long-term scenario runs, and shorter-term projections.
Essential Functions:
+ Modify and maintain complex inputs for electricity markets based on pertinent market research and understanding of LMP’s, transmission market data, including supply and demand, transmission congestion, capacity allocation, and pricing mechanisms within the multiple markets Basin Electric transacts in.
+ Assist in the analysis of market strategies using market simulation software of PLEXOS, AURORA, or similar platforms, to identify and quantify impacts of strategy considered.
+ Assist in the coordination of monthly generation modeling. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to gather relevant data and inputs for market analysis. Work closely with Commodity Risk Management, Financial Planning and Reporting, and Asset Management, Resource Planning, and Rates to coordinate and analyze model outputs, including back casting activities to improve accuracy of delivered outputs.
+ Initiate modeling and process of projecting revenue associated with energy and capacity obligations, including predicting generation from Basin Electric facilities, and integrating long-term power contracts, whether purchases or sales. Perform statistical analysis and data mining techniques to extract insights and patterns from large datasets.
+ Obtain a general understanding of the Cooperative’s power supply system to accurately present the modeling results for the Cooperative and to understand the broader regional power supply system to model, maintain, and update within the power supply model.
+ Acquire knowledge of resource strategy concepts and considerations, including electric generation resource types and characteristics, and respective costs, risks, operating characteristics, and fuel supply considerations.
+ Obtain knowledge and skills in the areas of fundamental electricity supply and demand drivers, energy market dynamics, and risk and valuation techniques for predicting and evaluating energy market outcomes.
+ Research and gain an understanding of RTO market updates, services, requirements, operations, projected loads, new generation, transmission additions, and any other pertinent information potentially used in accurately modeling and forecasting generation and market prices. May participate in RTO working groups, conferences, meetings, webinars, or other available resources.
