Job Description
Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President for Global and Multicultural Engagement, Multicultural Student Services (MSS) provides programs, services, resources and support to students from all backgrounds and cultures. The Assistant Director is a professional position that will manage the responsibilities that will span across the four primary functional areas of Multicultural Student Services (Enrollment; Student Leadership and Engagement; External, Alumni and Faculty/Staff Relations; and Community Engagement). These functional areas support institutional recruitment, retention, engagement and belonging initiatives. The Assistant Director will demonstrate advanced knowledge related to students from all backgrounds and cultures which may include first time college students, socioeconomic status, and those overcoming obstacles both academic and personal. While focusing on providing the necessary support to ensure their successful transition into the institution and foster their academic success throughout their college experience, the Assistant Director will develop and oversee programs and initiatives aimed at increasing recruitment and retention efforts; will also collaborate broadly with offices and departments to achieve the desired outcomes. The Assistant Director will be a solution manager and connect students to any and all necessary resources that will generate a successful outcome. The Assistant Director will demonstrate the ability to perform complex tasks such as developing semester or annual programming with the knowledge and ability to use various forms of assessment to adjust as needed to meet goals and budget alignment. Programs for implementation, assessment and reporting will include academic success programs; retention initiatives; welcome programs; recruitment strategies; and community engagement activities. The Assistant Director will make recommendations to the Associate Vice President for Global and Multicultural Engagement; the VP for Strategic Enrollment Management; University Deans and faculty; and stakeholders and staff from various units.
Responsibilities and Results
+ **Academic Success Programs** . The Assistant Director will design innovative programs, implement strategies and unique engagement advocacy to improve various measures of academic success through many pathways such as student organizations, student workers, and promotional events. The Assistant Director will work and negotiate and collaborate with staff and key stakeholders in units to design academic success programs that provide support to these efforts as determined by the Associate VP for Global and Multicultural Engagement.
+ **Retention Initiatives.** The Assistant Director create retention initiatives that include but are not limited to student engagement, university and social belonging. + **Welcome Programs.** The Assistant Director will take lead on aspects of student engagement and belonging programs under Global and Multicultural Engagement for Multicultural Student Services, Center for International Studies and Pre-College programs. This will include program design, logistical details, communication with staff and key stakeholders in collaborating units, and persuading and negotiating to achieve the desired goals and outcomes as determined by university strategic plan and with direction from the Associate VP for Global and Multicultural Engagement.

+ **Community Engagement Activities.** The Assistant Director will have responsibilities within the external community to serve as a liaison and representative of the University and Global and Multicultural Engagement. This will include attending off-campus meetings and events.
+ **Other Duties as Assigned**
Minimum Qualifications
+ Master’s degree and 1 (one) year professional experience in student advising, retention, pre-college programs, cultural programming, or student services **or** Bachelor’s degree and 2 (two) years professional experience in student advising, retention, pre-college programs, cultural programming, or student services.
+ Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of U.S. population demographics, including but not limited to, first time college student, socioeconomic status, permanent resident aliens, refugees, asylees, protected class citizens and international students.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to organize, manage time and be attentive to detail.
+ Experience with educational outreach, implementing intervention strategies, and student academic advising.
Preferred Qualification
+ Experience in higher education working in recruitment, retention, academic advising, personal advising, community relations and concerns of student communities from all populations.
+ Experience with college-level summer academic program models, social and cultural program development and community program development.
+ Familiarity with current trends in higher education including regional, national, and international demographics.
Other Requirements
+ Occasional evening and/or weekend hours to accommodate meeting(s) with student organizations, individual students, and to participate in related activities.
+ Travel (occasional overnight) with or without students for conferences, and or events.
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday
