    UES is a full-service, nationwide environmental consulting firm with a growing and vibrant cultural resource practice. We prioritize a client-first approach grounded in responsible resource management.     UES is actively looking for our next highly valued team member- this position is for a full-time Project Archaeologist/Cultural Resource Consultant, based out of our Knoxville, Tennessee office. However, the expectations for office presence and the physical location of the qualified candidate are highly flexible.

     

    This career path position will share responsibilities across the Southeastern Region and beyond. This position offers hybrid or remote work options, with a strong emphasis on fieldwork- especially in Tennessee to start.

    Job Responsibilities:

    •Be responsible for the daily management of cultural resource (CR) tasks and projects, with Principal Investigator and Project Manager oversight

    •Direct fieldwork and supervise archaeological crews

    •Routinely write reports, complete forms, contribute to CR sections of environmental documents, assist with project proposals, etc.

    •Train temporary and permanent staff

    •Representing UES CR at meetings, conferences, or events

    •Be permitted/permittable across the various land management agencies (USFS, NPS, BLM, etc.)

    •Contribute to the CR team’s overall success and vision through teamwork, leadership, and collaboration

    Qualifications

    Graduate degree in archaeology or a closely related field. SOI-qualified individuals are required- with credentials or equivalent professional experience

     

    •3-5 years of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in cultural resource management

    •1 year of field and analytic experience in the archaeology of Eastern U.S. (preferably TN, KY, GA, NC, SC, VA, AL)

    •Comprehensive understanding of archaeological field methods and the ability and enthusiasm to share this knowledge with less experienced archaeologists

    •Familiarity with the prehistory and history of the Southeast and surrounding regions

    •Strong writing skills and the willingness to further develop those skills

    •Understanding of federal, state, and municipal preservation laws and regulations (particularly Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act) and how these are implemented at the project level

    •Leadership skills and a professional, approachable, and collaborative demeanor

    •Fluency in digital data collection and field data management (GIS skills a plus)

    •Registered Professional Archaeologist or Registered Archaeologist or ability to become so

    •Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and challenging physical environments

    •Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel overnight (up to 50 percent)

    •An emphasis on well-rounded archaeological consulting: including maximizing field efficiencies, comfort in client-facing roles, and working in diverse teams

    •A strong commitment to providing respectful, conscientious, and professional cultural resources consulting service
