Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary
The Staff Cloud Engineer role is ideal for experienced Developers or Systems Engineers passionate about leveraging cloud technologies to build, manage, and optimize infrastructure and applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is a key member of our Digital Transformation & Innovation (DT&I) team, operating within a dynamic POD-style model. You will be at the forefront of adopting cutting-edge technologies and implementing transformative solutions that directly impact the business. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, to deliver innovative cloud solutions that drive business value.
This position will focus on architecting, building, and automating cloud infrastructure on GCP, ensuring reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness. You will leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments and configuration management. You will also be responsible for communicating effectively with stakeholders, contributing to cloud strategy, and driving continuous improvement in our cloud practices.
Major Responsibilities:
* Automated Infrastructure Deployment:
Implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for automated infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and application deployments. Ensure pipelines are efficient, reliable, and secure.
* Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Champion:
Configure and maintain IaC solutions using Terraform for all cloud infrastructure components. Ensure infrastructure is version-controlled, testable, and easily reproducible across environments. Establish and enforce IaC best practices, promoting automation and consistency.
* Enabling Data Science Teams:
Provide infrastructure support for data science initiatives, including setting up environments for model development, deployment, and monitoring. Implement solutions to ensure data access, security, and compliance. Familiarity with Vertex AI and MLOps principles is a plus.
* Collaboration with External Teams and Partners:
Partner with Google Cloud and other technology providers to provide feedback, shape product roadmaps, and ensure services meet HCA’s cloud engineering requirements and innovation goals.
* Collaboration with Internal Teams and Partners:
Work closely with Data Scientists, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and business unit teams to ensure all cloud infrastructure and applications comply with security guidelines, data privacy laws, and governance standards. Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams.
* Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including architectural diagrams, configuration guides, and best practice documentation for cloud infrastructure. Share knowledge across teams to standardize cloud engineering processes, promote self-service capabilities, and foster a culture of learning.
* Drive Continuous Improvement in Cloud Engineering Practices:
Evaluate emerging cloud technologies, frameworks, and tools, identifying opportunities for improvement in current workflows and recommending solutions to increase automation, efficiency, and reliability. Contribute to the development and evolution of HCA's cloud strategy, aligning technology with business objectives.
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in a cloud engineering, DevOps, systems engineering, or software development role required; preferably in a mid-sized to large organization.
• GCP Professional Cloud Architect or equivalent certification preferred. Experience with equivalent certifications on Azure or AWS will also be considered.
• Experience working in Agile environments and with cross-functional teams.
Required Skills:
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms with demonstrated experience on GCP
• Deep understanding of GCP services (e.g., Cloud Storage, Vertex AI, Big Query). Equivalent knowledge of Azure or AWS services will be considered.
• Strong proficiency with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Proficiency in Python or another scripting language for automation and infrastructure management.
• Solid understanding of cloud architecture principles, security best practices, and infrastructure optimization techniques.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience working with Agile methodologies and participating in Agile ceremonies.
• A strong interest in exploring new technologies and applying them to solve business problems.
• Experience optimizing cloud costs and implementing cost-saving measures is a plus.
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools is a plus.
