Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Management, the Safety Officer is responsible for coordinating and supervising compliance activities for the Emergency Management (EM), Environment of Care (EOC), and Life Safety (LS) standards. The employee performs additional tasks/activities as assigned. Provides leadership, training, education, and consultative services to departments and services within the organization to assist in achieving facility emergency preparedness, and regulatory & accreditation compliance.

What you will do in this role:

+ Investigate safety and emergency management issues and develop documentation and/or procedures to correct them

+ Helps design, implement, and maintain safety programs including the development and enforcement of policies, risk assessments, and training for all employees

+ Designs, implements and maintains processes and documentation to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission’s Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety (LS) standards as well as other regulatory requirements. Helps chair the Environment of Care (EOC) Committee

+ Participates in regular EOC/LS rounds throughout the hospital facility and all offsite properties

+ Oversees vendors, contractors, and staff to ensure testing/repair/upgrade of life safety and safety systems is properly accomplished and documented

+ Maintain the hospital’s compliance documentation platform (Complyos) and work order system (Engineering Central)

+ Conducts drills to test hospital response to emergency situations

+ Coordinates with outside regulatory and emergency management agencies as needed to ensure regulatory compliance and preparedness for emergencies

+ Provides safety and emergency management training as needed for staff and executives

+ Train and educate facility personnel following EC, EM, and LS policies

+ Assist department directors and administrators in enforcing safety and emergency preparedness regulations and codes

+ Be responsible for Safety and Emergency Preparedness for all offsite facilities and properties

What qualifications you will need:

+ Associate Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field is required.

+ 3 years’ experience with The Joint Commission’s Emergency Management, Environment of Care, and Life Safety standards is preferred.

+ Experience managing safety programs in a hospital setting preferred.
