Child Nutrition Programs Coordinator for the USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and the Afterschool Snack Program (ASSP), at the Idaho State Department of Education. Performs work for these programs exercising independent judgment, initiative, and leadership. Exercises influence on financing, administration, and management of the NSLP, SBP, and ASSP. May be called upon to assist in problem-solving in regulatory, financial, and administrative issues relating to the operation of these programs.
This posting will be used to fill two positions.
This position will require travel throughout the state for training and monitoring of sponsors. This travel includes overnight trips for multiple days away from home.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinate and conduct comprehensive Administrative Reviews of NSLP and SBP program sites statewide including, public and private Schools, Residential Facilities and Private Non-profit sites.This travel includes overnight trips for multiple days away from home;
• Research, interpret, and disseminate Federal regulations and instructions pertinent to USDA Child Nutrition Programs;
• Work with contractors on NSLP and SBP nutrition reviews;
• Monitor and update Child Nutrition program publications as needed;
• Assess training needs of sponsors and plan, coordinate, and conduct all annual mandatory trainings both on-line and in person;
• Review and approve annual agreements for new and continuing program sponsors;
• Administer programs from the state level according to USDA regulations and provide updates to the webmaster for the Child Nutrition Programs website;
• Recommend program policies and procedures to conform to federal regulations and eligibility criteria;
• Provide expertise, guidance, policy interpretation, technical assistance, and training to school districts, educational agency personnel, outside groups and/or to consultants or contractors;
• Prepare and distribute documentation, handbooks, manuals, and related written material to support Child Nutrition programs;
• Collect, maintain, and analyze information, reports, and documentation;
• Maintain and distribute a variety of reports, correspondence, and related documents;
• Attend regional and national USDA meetings out of state as necessary.
• Respond to inquiries and requests for information, interpret program regulations and guidelines, and provide assistance to school districts and other interested parties;
• Represent the Department at local, state, and regional conferences, seminars, and meetings, as directed, including serving on committees, study groups, councils, task forces, and related associations;
• Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with SDE policies, procedures, and safety practices.
• Cooperate in other program areas to maximize staff participation and provide competent coverage of all programs at all times;
• Format any public documents for ADA accessibility per SDE policies and procedures.
• Carry out additional assignments as requested by higher level administration and USDA.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in food service administration, nutrition, or a related field.
• Experience interpreting state or federal laws and regulations that relate to USDA Child Nutrition Programs.
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of public entities.
• Conflict management and human relation skills.
• Ability to assume a leadership role and project management in the area of USDA Child Nutrition Programs.
• Ability to manage budgets and track expenditures in accordance with federal, state, and program requirements, under the direction of the Child Nutrition Director.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Additional consideration will be given for Master's degree.
• ServSafe or Idaho Food Manager Certificate.
• Experience in planning, conducting, and presenting nutrition and food service training sessions or classes are desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without reasonable accommodation)
This position requires the ability to perform the following physical and job-related tasks:
• Operate standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, and scanner.
• Perform general administrative duties including typing, filing, answering phones, processing paperwork, and assembling office materials.
• Read, review, and process both printed and digital documents.
• Navigate websites and online systems; identify and respond to safety concerns; greet and assist visitors.
• Maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.
• Understand, communicate, and follow through on program support tasks and responsibilities.
• Approximately 90% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time.
• Approximately 10% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, or kneeling.
• Occasionally lift items, typically weighing under 5 lbs., and occasionally up to 20 lbs.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
This position requires approximately 30% - 35% travel time throughout the state for training and monitoring of sponsors.

Vesting in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI): All employees of the Idaho Department of Education are non-classified. They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency.
Tuition Fee Waiver: All Idaho Department of Education employees in permanent full-time positions may register for instructional courses during any academic period, at any participating state funded institutions of higher education, for a $20.00 nonrefundable registration fee per semester and $5.00 per credit hour charge.
