    Position description

    The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is seeking a candidate for a Project Scientist position at the Assistant, Associate and Full ranks to be based at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

     

    The candidate will work with Investigators in the UCLA Magnetic Resonance Research Laboratories (MRRL), the UCLA-VA Division of Cardiology, and the UCLA Diagnostic Cardiovascular Imaging Section of Radiology. Projects include: 1) developing and applying advanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging methods to detect and quantify indices of cardiovascular disease in human patients and animal models and 2) image-based computational modeling of the cardiovascular system. The projects are in the areas of ischemic-reperfusion /hemorrhagic myocardial infarction and heart failure, ischemic microvascular heart disease, and congenital heart disease.

     

    A Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment are expected. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

     

    Ph.D. candidates should hold a degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Science, Physiology, or a closely related field. Desired skills include experience in MRI, Siemens IDEA and ICE programming, image reconstruction and processing, and cardiovascular disease research.

     

    The candidate is expected to be proficient in MATLAB, C++, Python. Experience in computational modeling of the cardiovascular system and/or machine learning is also desired.

    Qualifications

    Basic qualifications

    A Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. is required.

     

    Ph.D. candidates should hold a degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Science, Physiology, or a closely related field.

     

    Additional qualifications

    The candidate is expected to be proficient in MATLAB, C++, Python.

     

    Prior background in biostatistics is expected. The candidate is expected to have prior first author publications.

    Preferred qualifications

    Desired skills include experience in MRI, Siemens IDEA and ICE programming, image reconstruction and processing, and cardiovascular disease research.

     

    Experience in computational modeling of the cardiovascular system and/or machine learning is also desired.

     

    Prior experience in cardiovascular interventional procedures and ischemic/infarct modeling in large animals is preferred.
